Steven Lloyd's Journal, 16 Feb 16

Got a little bad news this afternoon, ruptured disk from an twisting, awkward lift last night of a generator into a box in my garage. Six to twelve weeks of recuperation if things go well. Doctor's orders; no light working out for a week or more (another checkup in a week), physiotherapy starting in a week, no skiing or heavy working out for the rest of the season. Will need to watch my intake very carefully now or could be trouble.

Wow, that's some sucky news. That would drive me crazy to not be able to get out and do things I know are good for me. Hang in there, bud! Maybe a good time to do some research while you're on restricted activity?

Man, that truly sucks. Sorry to hear it. Last August, I ended up with a huge disk herniation. Really knocked me for a loop. Still not right, marginally limited (or maybe just timid), but I'm pain free, so that's good. I'm especially sorry to hear that you won't be able to ski. I know you really love it. Hang in there, and heal quickly.

Herniated disk in my 20's, kept me out of work for 1.5yrs!...... Hoping yours heals much... Much faster

Something I believe is a magic healer in half the time, is lots of icing. I'm an ex athlete, and I swear by it. People don't like the initial freezing feeling, but it works wonders. The key is those plastic, frozen squares. Get a few and alternate them from the freezer. I have been doing my knee with them for months. Then use ice and heat, but mainly keep with the ice.

Thank you all for your kind comments and concerns! Right now I can't even put my socks on myself, simple things are now very difficult...getting in and out of a car is difficult, closing the door almost impossible. Laying on an ice pack right now and apparently I will be doing lots of this over the next week. Goal is to do whatever it takes to keep this from becoming chronic. Very ironic that I've hit some all time personal bests this season and now get to "take it easy".

As much as that stinks, it sounds like you have a successful counter attack plan. You can do it!

Brutal. Now it's all diet. :( Oh well. Walking should help down the road. I can't imagine. Hope your doc is wrong and you recover quickly.

Hey Steve, That sucks - you'll come around quickly I am sure. As an FYI, was walking out to the Hot Tub on Monday and went ass over tea-kettle going down the icy stairs. I was soo lucky, just bruised ribs and back, no 'Back Injuries' sustained. Talk soon. Don
