Debbie Cousins's Journal, 07 Jul 19

I’ve already got my whole day’s food for tomorrow recorded in my Food Diary. I find that I do MUCH better when I plan ahead, whether it is a day ahead, or just a meal ahead. Today marks the end of my first full week back “ON the wagon!” I praise God that I was able to stay within my RDI for Calories and within my Net Carbs every day! I also got in my 64 ounces of water daily. AND … wait for it …

I actually did REAL exercise 5 out of the 7 days. I swam over 2-1/2 miles total! (12 laps, 15, 18, 16, and 13 -- 30 laps is one mile, and I swam 74 total laps! This is a BIGGIE for me! It’s supposed to rain ALL day (with thunder storms) so the pool will be closed tomorrow. WAH! I would have liked to get the new week off to a good start.

On Wednesday, I have to have a “procedure” done at the outpatient surgery center. I’m trying to get this overactive bladder taken care of, and they are going to shove a CAMERA up inside my urinary tract to see what’s going on in there. Thankfully, I’ll be knocked out for the ordeal, as I have NO desire to be aware of anything being put INTO my urethra!

I can’t eat or drink anything after midnight tomorrow, because of the anesthesia. I won’t know what time the surgery is until tomorrow, but I usually have finished dinner by 6:30pm, so I’ll probably end up with an involuntary 18-hour fast! .

I feel like I’m stable enough to be able to enjoy just the one meal after a traumatic ordeal without sabotaging myself into a full-blown (and extended) binge. Do y’all think I should RE-think this? I’ve done SO well for the past week. I know I “shouldn’t” reward myself with food, and I shouldn’t eat in response to stressful situations, but …

After the procedure, I was thinking about having my husband take me to Cracker Barrel to use the gift card I got for my birthday. How dangerous do you think it would be for me to eat what I want for just that one meal (not bringing home any leftovers). I won’t have dessert – just the lunch. OR, I might get Chicken Drumettes from Golden Skillet!

Oh, just remembered that we have a Longhorn Steakhouse and a Red Lobster gift certificate too, from our anniversary!!! If I got steak, I COULD bring home the leftovers and have streak and eggs for breakfast the next morning. If I went for the seafood, I’d get it breaded. If I get the drumettes, I would make some mashed potatoes and poultry gravy to go with them. If I go to Cracker Barrel, I’ll probably have the Fried Shrimp with green beans, carrots, and a side salad WITH croutons. Decisions. Decisions.

I sound too excited, don’t I? Is that a bad sign?

Yeah I was chuckling when I got to the end because you were listing all those choices in one breath. What I like about your plan is that it is a very unique situation so you will not be able to use it as an excuse again since these procedures do not happen that often. From a keto perspective you will be fine as well going in fasting and then having one big carb splurge does not have a huge impact physiologically. So I am a tentative yes sure.

I LOVE YOU, @liv001! (Which doesn't mean I DON'T love people who won't agree with her -- it just was a really nice relief for a first comment!)

Deb- I'm sending you a PM. I don't think everyone needs to hear what I have to say about overactive bladder therapy!

Congrats on being on plan. It must feel so great! I pray your procedure goes uneventfully and you get to have a special, meal afterward. I would think after not eating all day it would be a great time to use a gift card!

No it's not a bad sign to get excited. I don't think it's wrong to have a slight splurge after an ordeal. We are human after all. I believe it is wise not to have dessert especially on top of extra carbs. The potatoes or croutons, on top of the breading sound like the biggest splurge. I vote yes, go and enjoy yourself. Of course I can't really know if it will trigger you, but it sounds like a special occasion, and I will be praying you can enjoy it, without it causing you any lasting problems afterward. You have done a very good job this week. Also will be praying for your procedure.

Good morning....we're so similar sometimes it's hilarious...for me it doesn't trigger me if I keep it low carb but if I allow anything I go nuts...and the fact that you're listing out all the different options means you're already getting overly excited at the idea which is usually a sign I'd overeat if I'm being like that I dunno...but I agree with Davidsprincess that only you know what will trigger one. Anyways...good job on the awesome week!!!!! I am right behind you trying to get back on track

i hope things are going well. You can do this because you've had plenty of practice praying when the road gets bumpy and I think just maybe your road takes a lot of detours.

I have decided that I am going to go to Cracker Barrel instead of any of the other places, primarily because all of the others would involve either mashed potatoes or a baked potato. I'd rather "splurge" on extra carbs from sweet carrots and yummy green beans. Even if I get the breaded shrimp, which is what I'm thinking I'll do, it's not like I'd be eating a Cheddar Bay Biscuit from Red Lobster or half of the bread loaf at Longhorn! I'm not worried about the few croutons on the salad, either. I feel good about the Cracker Barrel choices, and I feel confident that I will be able to stay on track afterward. I will also record everything I eat that day, and make low-carb choices if I have any dinner later that night. Decision made. Thanks, everyone, for your input. I appreciate it. It helped to give me clarity and direction.
