Confessions of an Ambien-Eater. Last night, after I took my Ambien, I still wasn't asleep after an hour. I got up and ate two more whole servings of the Danish Kringle with some milk. A few minutes after that, my blood sugar took a DIVE because it had excreted so much insulin with the sugar rush, so I had to eat a piece of toast with butter and peanut butter on it to ease the shakiness and weakness. I'm SO thankful that my husband followed my suggestion to eat the REST of the Kringle this morning so that it wouldn't be a temptation. Last night, my flawed logic was, "eat it all in one day, so it won't be a temptation on other days." Fortunately, it was too sweet to down all at once. That thing was delicious! I still have my little 1/24th slices in the freezer, but I'm NOT going to have any of it today after seeing how addictive it is. I'll save it for a day when I've had virtually ZERO carbs and can fit it into my macros. I feel so GUILTY that many of you congratulated me on my self-discipline for yesterday and then I failed. Usually, I go right to sleep after taking the Ambien; but, when I don't, I make very poor decisions and then usually don't even REMEMBER them the next day. (Last night, before I went back to sleep, I sent myself an email telling myself what I had done - plus I saw the peanut butter knife on the counter this morning which jogged my memory.) Yesterday is HISTORY. I can't change history, but I can MAKE a better history for tomorrow by making better choices today!

I'm truly sorry for your struggle. You post makes me lament those who are in decent health and justify all the sugary treats and justify it with the word "moderation," without the consideration that there are many on here that have been on here for years who genuinely cannot practice moderation thus failing to meet their goals. If people like me point out this "reality" we become demonized by many who can maintain health. I pray that you can modify your relationship to food. My grandfather said back in the 60s before it was vogue "I eat to live, I don't live to eat." That came from a backwoods hillbilly with a 3rd grade education, and other than the coal-dust doing him in he was fit as a fiddle. I pray you find your compass.

For the last month I've had a craving to eat in the middle of the night, but I've been able to resist the urge the last couple of weeks. Here's hoping we can both do better.

Thanks, @adamevegod1. Yes, I'm one of those who cave in the face of temptation and can't "have just one". For the most part, it's best for me to just stay away from sweets and carbs (bread mostly) altogether. Once I get started, it can take me a LONG time to recover and get back on track. I'm hoping to someday be able to say, "I can eat anything I want, and I still maintain my perfect weight of 165." I know that for that to happen, I need to change "what I want," and I'm confident that will happen as I begin to affirm it.

Debbie I am also one of these people who can`t have just one. Since sugar has no nutritional value I choose to avoid it on a daily basis. I have had to work at it for a long time and also felt in the past that once I had it I would actually crave it the following day and sometimes for quite a few days. At this point in my life, I would say that I have succeeded in having it once in a while. I do know that if something I really like is on my kitchen table I will eat it. Therefore, there are no sweets in my house, I don`t go to the store to purchase them and I am really at that point where I can go without for a very long time. I am never going to be one of those people who can have a little bit every day and I would rather not be since there is no nutritional value in it. Adam, I support you and wish that people could always give their opinions and that somehow we could get some very interesting conversations here.

I, too, don't buy thing that will be a temptation to me, @Ireland-83. The problem is, however, that there are two other adults in my household who DO like and want to eat those things. Still, I am the one who does the grocery shopping, so as far as sweets go, I buy them things that I don't really care for (like oatmeal cream pies and lemon pudding cups). I still struggle, though, with resisting bread (can't have Thomas' English Muffins in the house), but once I get OUT of the habit of it, I'm okay as long as I don't have ANY.

I am never trying a Thomas English Muffin!! There is one bread that I really like and I can't have it in my house because I will finish it! That's great that you buy desserts that you don`t like for the other 2 people in the house, I would do the same. What we do is that neither of us brings anything in the house to tempt the other. It`s good that I could get my husband to agree on that. I wish you success for 2020, I can certainly understand!
