Best wishes are coming y'all's way. I used to have a kerosene heater. I learned that kerosene ruins the taste of toasted marshmallows.

NorthWest DC...in the bullseye, looking at 36" max..45mph winds...expect to lose power, and to be cut off, only two roads in or out from here. ugh....

Shoveling snow is great exercise. I used to additionally shovel my elderly neighbor's walk/driveway for the extended workout. Lemons into lemonade - make it work in your favor!

Jmb I hope everything is well with you dealing with the snow and all. People that aren't used to the snow drive like nitwits. Be careful and I hope the power doesn't go out.

Be careful with that kerosene heater. We had one on overnight in cottage, felt weird, turns out those fumes build up with no venting. Just saying........

Should have explained better, kerosene heaters use up oxygen so levels get reduced in poorly ventilated spaces, which can lead to incomplete fuel consumption and dangerous carbon monoxide levels. We were told we were very lucky. Be warm and safe!

Yes, important to have ventilation with the heater. My house isn't tight enough for that to be a problem, but electricity still on so no need for the kerosene heater at this point. Got around 20" of snow judging from the yardstick in the yard so far but it's blowing/drifting so hard to be exact. Going out soon to shovel.

We have snow, too ... but not that much, I don't think. We had 11 inches last night. Glad you have the kerosene heater for backup. I used to have one of those when I lived in a farmhouse that was drafty. We finally bought an emergency generator for this house just for basic electricity a few years ago with a tax refund when they went on sale at Harbor Freight. Our neighbor helped hubby wire it into the fuse box, but it isn't whole house and it is a trick getting it started. Stay warm and safe.
