jmb3450's Journal, 19 Jan 16

My wife and I fasted yesterday. I did have coconut oil, butter, and cream in my morning coffee and a cup of beef broth at dinner time. But other than that nothing, I guess I can call it a fast. Surprisingly wasn't hungry, a little light headed for a while but that passed. Had an urge to eat something around evening time but it wasn't really due to being hungry...I just wanted to eat...the desire passed in a few minutes. I'm down a couple pounds from it, we'll see how that holds up. We're considering fasting one day a week. Not for a quick weight loss, but for the health benefits of doing it.

Last night was the second meeting of our Daniel Plan group. We still haven't received our books thanks to a shipment error, so we've just been doing introductions and talking about things in general. I suggested everyone anonymously write their starting weight on a piece of paper and put it in a bowl so we can tally it up, after 6 weeks we'll do the same and see how much weight has been lost as a group. The church has a great place to walk around the gym in our family life center, 11 laps around is one mile. About half the group walked it after our meeting, some of them had a hard time. But it's a good start. Next week I signed up to bring a healthy snack to the meeting, I think I'll do some experimenting this week with tabouli salad, maybe adding some spinach or kale along with the parsley. Some toasted low carb pitas or wraps to go with it would be good, and some veggie strips.

Having group members anonymously write down their weight to be tallied and compared after 6 weeks is a great idea as is the group walk.

Fasting is really beneficial. There are various options, my preferred routine is a 16:8 daily fast. After dinner, nothing but Coffee in the AM through till Lunch, that is typically a 16hr fast, from 12pm - 8pm is my 8hr eating window. This is pretty easy to do and can really help boost your weight loss when you look at cortisol levels and when it is at its highest.

Good luck to you and the rest of your group. I like the idea of making it a team effort 😀

Why does the meeting need to have food present? Other than water/coffee, you're not undoing the bad habit of gathering=food. For this group, gathering=exercise is best. Are you worried that no one will show if there's no free food? Does that sound a bit FU to you?

Great to see others on FS doing the Daniel Plan too. Dr. Amen's speech on Saturday was inspiring as always. He said, "Love the foods that love you back." Did you put butter & coconut oil in your coffee? That's sounds very weird. Dr. Amen suggested: In a blender: 1/2 c. coffee, 1/2 c. UNSWEETENED Almond milk (I like Coconut Almond), and a few drops of flavored stevia. I used Chocolate and cherry extract. Whip it up and it is very frothy. Sprinkle with cinnamon. It was very yummy!

I just bought some coconut oil with prompting from a relative who claims it can cure anything from baldness to arthritis!!! May as well give it a shot but I wanted to ask you, how much do you take daily?

Soon, not at all a problem having food at the meetings. The meeting is 6:30, many people are coming straight from work with no dinner. And the point is to have something healthy to eat there; it can also be a way of sharing ideas, recipes, etc. I hope that when the 6 week structured meetings are done people will be interested in getting together once a month for fellowship and maybe a structured pot luck of healthy foods which could also be a way of sharing healthy food ideas. Social gatherings that involve food don't need to be a bad thing..

Lifesatrip - butter & coconut oil is the recipe for bulletproof coffee. Mandajen - I don't do the coconut oil every day, when I do it's 1 TBSP sometimes less.

Hmmm... I will have to give it a try. I just watched a video about low carb, high fat/protein diet. The chef ate a glob of coconut oil/lard and suggested butter too. I never heard it promotes hair re-growth. That would be so great for those of us who are losing it! Btw... I just created a new Daniel Plan Group on F.S. the old one expired. So for anybody doing the Daniel Plan Program - check it out and join us!

Madanjen, the research I've done attributes some very good benefits from ingesting coconut oil. Can be used topically too.
