Fritzy 22's Journal, 09 Nov 19

I think I am just disappointed in myself and I keep sabotaging my eating day at the end of it - at night, when I usually don't eat a bite. When I planned my next vacation I set a 10 week plan to lose 15 pounds or 1.5 pounds a week. The last time I posted my weight was 3 weeks ago and I was within 3 pounds of that goal. I remember thinking that I would probably lose more than the 15 pounds, maybe 17 or 18. Now I am up 5 pounds and my vacation starts a week from tomorrow. So I am disappointed that I managed to totally destroy that goal. My I just hope I can get back to the current posted weight by next Sunday, I'm just not really feeling motivated. I have really learned, that for me, it doesn't pay to have "binge" days or days that I really give in to cravings. I can maybe do a tiny cheat - like go and get an ice cream cone at the local coffee and ice cream place with one scoop. But I can't buy 2 bags of chips because they are 2 for $5 and eat all them within 2 or 3 days with ranch dip or buy a big box of Cheez-its. Just reading that makes me want to say "well, duh" -but that's what I do on MY binges. I did that 2 years ago about once every 2 to 3 weeks and would get right back to losing weight. But now I realize it wastes at least 2 weeks for losing weight. First the 2 to 3 days of eating bad (or even just one really bad day), then about a week to lose whatever gain the binge caused and then another week to start showing a loss again. I know that, so why, why, why do I do what I do?

I'm sorry, Fritzy! Self-sabotage is so crazy, isn't it? I have done the same thing several times. As soon as I would give myself a goal- it was like a hidden rebellious part would come out and want to do the opposite. Good luck to you! Wish I could help you somehow!

You are still good. Just a small setback. Those self imposed weightloss goals of "x pounds by x" can be hard sometimes. What one probably need is the rhythm of a long term life eating plan and overall you are doing healthy things for yourself. Keep it up!

DP - thanks your support is a big help! I do this all the time when I get close to a goal, instead of going over the finish line, I turn around and back to where I started. Liv - the goal was really helping me, until it didn't. Sometimes shorter goals work for me where I don't have so much time to mess up.

I get it. Been there. And I agree. Sometimes it's hard to compare the cost of a single ice cream to a big bag of chips. When I have that argument with myself I rationalize the cost of medications & healthcare against it.

You are so, so, so human! Have a fantastic vacation!

Thanks Bella and Kpw. I'm just so frustrated with myself, but I'll get over it. I'm not eating any solids today. So far just the morning hot chocolate and then water.

You'll figure it out. Enjoy your vacation and know that you'll get back to it when you come home. Please try not to get down on yourself. Sometimes all the negative self-talk is what leads to needing comfort through calories. ❤

I would say have your tiny treat. I would have maybe some fries or some mashed potatoes but only the tiniest amount. I love ice cream so maybe once a month I'll have a small ice cream. but yes any more than that you gained quickly and you cannot figure out like you used to do. otherwise, like you say, you end up struggling to lose the weight you gained on your pig out day. so good luck eat smaller bites and have a great Sunday.

I appreciate your honest post here Fritzy because I think you hit the nail on the head for me. A small treat is ALL I can handle too because I will go off the tracks. I even crave things like Cheez-Its, too. We must be on the same wavelength. Don't fret! You are learning what makes your WOE successful. :)

@Fritzy 22, you can get back in the game. I know it! @liv001, your idea of "rhythm and steady progress" over "x pounds by x date" is spot on.

Fritzy, I self sabotage too. It can be very frustrating, and I'm really working on breaking that cycle. Good luck, enjoy your vacation, and come back stronger than ever. 💛💚💜

I do think my body puts on the breaks if I'm losing at a steady pace. I get hungrier. It's like the hunger hormones kick in if I'm losing a lot. I eat, get a bounce at the scale, then settle there before I can get going down again. So, enjoy your losses, try to hang on to them and once you are settled at that weight, then another loss will be possible. Dip, bounce; dip bounce. As long as the trend is downward, you've got progress. I know that there are people who just go steadily downward, but not everyone; not me.

Becc - I agree about too much negative self talk. I am pretty much over that. I had a successful day yesterday of a liquid fast. Water only with my usual cup of hot chocolate, but made with almond milk instead of non fat milk. Lydium - part of my diet is a cup of hot chocolate made with Ghirardelli hot cocoa mix and either skim milk or almond milk. That usually is enough of a treat to get me through the day without cravings and I include it in my meal plan. Otherwise, yes, I've found that going out to get one scoop of ice cream instead of having a container in the freezer does less damage to me. Or eating the fries that comes with a meal out is better than making fries at home. Binky - thanks for understanding. It helps to know I am not the only one who does some of the things Ido. Mira - you and I have been supporting each other for so long and we are so similar in our times of weakness and strength and know the weak part doesn't last. Thank you Shirfleur, we'll figure out how to break the cycle. I used to think that what was best for me was to just give in to a craving and then get over it and move on. But recently I'm finding I really need to fight the craving because it does go away. Erika - it seems like my body (or more than likely, my mind) puts on the breaks when I get close to a goal. 2 years ago I had lost over 50 pounds and was within about 5 pounds of my first goal when I bought GS cookies from the little girls in front of the grocery store. That was the beginning of the end that time.

"I used to think that what was best for me was to just give in to a craving and then get over it and move on. But recently I'm finding I really need to fight the craving because it does go away." That's very insightful!

Aw, Fritzy! I'm sorry you are frustrated. You know you had the capability to reach your goal, and I know you are disappointed. But, dear, you are a good deal lower than you were! The last while has been a lot of stress for you with the fire danger and all that went along with it. Everyone has said fine and encouraging things before me. Just... We care and understand. We wouldn't be here on this site if we found this easy...
