LSG417's Journal, 09 Aug 18

It is so amazing to me how different a WOE can jump start weight loss. I was losing weight trying to do a somewhat low carb thing, but kept stalling. Now that I don't worry about how many grams of carbs I'm eating, just trying to eat healthier foods, I'm losing a bit faster. I've had 133 carbs today, 40 of that was from rice at lunch. The rest has been from lots of fruit and veggies. My fiber is closer to where it needs to be (still working on that) and I don't have to cook something different for myself when cooking for the family. I am really sticking to proper portion sizes, especially with rice or what little pasta I eat. When I do that, I don't feel bloated. It's when I overload on carbs that I feel bloated, well, simple carbs. I still weigh out my treats and they don't seem to be hurting my progress. It's always been about balance for me. I feel this is more sustainable in the long run and something I can stick with even on vacation.

Keep doing what works until it stops. Then and only then, you mix it up.

Your brain runs 100% off carbs.

Way to go! I eat tons of carbs and even though I don’t have to lose any weight, I don’t gain fat either. All this hype around low carb and especially keto is BS, especially when people start eating fatty shit... just eat right and stay somewhat active and you’d be fine! I think it is physically not very easy to overeat healthy food :))

Not all fat is created equal Vlad.. monosaturated fat in oily fish, nuts, avocados and cheese is extremely good for us and provides great support for the hormones in our bodies related to satiety happiness and well being .. it is the "diet" industry that has created all this absolute bullshit about fat being bad for us .. when it is not at all ..so "fat" is not shitty at all its sugar!!

And it is not even sugar or carbs that are the problem, it is the AMOUNT THAT PEOPLE EAT that is out of control.

lol sugar is not bad

Hey you know everyone has valid points. Although the problem with sugar is that it is difficult to limit and it has practically zero nutrition.. if you're in deficit and burning loads of energy sure it can give you a short term injection .. our real problem is we are not yet evolved enough to cope with refined sugar and wheat systematically, and for many that rush has addictive qualities.

Yeah, I don't believe it's sugar either. I had several sweet treats yesterday, trying to get my calories up, because I didn't want anything "filling" . I didn't gorge, it was little bits, here and there. I also have noticed that the closer I stay to my 1500 a day, the more I lose. If I go too low for too many days, like less than 1400, I stall. People think you have to starve yourself, but you have to FEED yourself and exercise!

If the issue is the limitation, than the person that ignores calories the one with no self control is the factor here. To educate ourselves is definitely not easy, there’s a lot of misinformation around. self control is hard but we gotta strive to have it if we care about our weight and health. It’s always easier to blame another factor than ourselves, I totally understand that. I blamed genetics for my obesity for many many years.

Very nice. I'm happy for you! I average 464 carbs a day and am the leanest I've been in 6 years. They are just calories and if you control them, you win. Let them control you and you lose. It's empowering once you realize that nothing is forbidden.

I also agree with the keeping your deficit small. Sure, you can brute force fat loss but you risk binges, low energy, muscle loss, faster metabolic adaptations etc. Since I've kept my deficit below 1k I've had a lot more energy for my runs/weight sessions and I look like I lift 24/7. I have a more full muscular look in part thanks to those beautiful carbs.

I tried to limit carbs to 50-100 but I just can’t do it most days. So now I’m happy with under 200 lol. Better than the 300 or so I was having before. Glad you are figuring out what works well for you to keep the progress going!
