I try to remember that perfection is rarely necessary. Just being ”good enough” on most of your activities makes you a very respectable human being. So, if you want to strive for perfection, choose a few things that you enjoy the most and are congruent with your values.

So true, EvaSieteTres! I'm not a "perfectionist." More like a "perfect-enough-tionist"! Over the years, I've tried needlepoint, knitting, sewing, decoupage -- none of it stuck. But I taught myself enough about photography to operate manual rangefinder and SLR cameras, and even develop B&W photos. I really enjoyed it. There was a craft to it! After I acquired an instant family in 1985, photography became impractical. Between working overtime constantly and family stuff, I had no time for such a solitary and expensive hobby. I've owned several generations of DSLRs but I've never spent enough time to really learn them. I think it's like the writer who prefers a manual typewriter: I know how to manipulate the controls of a manual camera to get the image I want; digital cameras, with all their "pre-sets" confuse me! (I can hardly believe that iPhones now have cameras with zoom and depth-of-field controls.)
