I am a 65 year old woman who started this weight loss journey at the end of May 2018. I maintained a healthy weight through my twenties. When I was in my late thirties, I began to bulk up; got down to 117 pounds for my 40th birthday. I began to gain weight in my fifties; lost some weight, although not enough. At the age of 58, I contracted a rare (one in every million people) autoimmune disease called Stiff Person Syndrome. It took two years to find a diagnosis and my mobility was and continues to be impacted. I also have Hashimoto's thyroiditis. They say autoimmune diseases like to travel in pairs (such fun). Along with the medications and infusions, my weight went to 160 pounds. I followed Dr. William Davis' Wheat Belly program for a year. I was able to maintain the 160 and sometimes lost three or four pounds. Because the program is so difficult to follow, my primary care physician recommended the standard "Doctor Diet." Amazingly (not so much), I gained an additional 20 pounds. I currently follow a Mediterranean diet and rely on intuitive eating along with daily exercise including weights, yoga, water aerobics and stationary cycling.

On a personal note, I have been married to my soulmate for 36 years. He has always maintained a healthy weight and has, literally, supported me through thick and thin.

Stay the course. Do whatever it takes for as long as it takes to reach a healthy mind, body, and spirit. And remember FS is about weight loss and support. This is not a place to share every detail of your life nor air your laundry.
