Just a little frustrated right now. I haven’t done anything different other than quit smoking with Wellbutrin and chewing sugar free gum but yet I have gained 6 lbs in less than 2 weeks. I’m thinking maybe sugar free gum was the culprit... So I haven’t chewed any in last two days and still not smoking. So I guess I need to look at the overall goal that I wanted to be healthier in a year and I have done that. I have lost 85 lbs .. was 91 but we won’t sweat it right now and quit smoking.. so I’m much more healthier than I was this time last year... any input on what anyone thinks why I have gained I would appreciate it. Thanks

You quit smoking!!!! That is so great!!! Cut yourself a bit of slack. You can catch up on those scale numbers soon enough. Sugar free stuff cause craving for me but if you are not eating more that is not what is happening with you. May just be a bit stress for your body as you are working though those cravings. So body just holding on to more water than usual. It will come off!

it could possibly be your medication I used to be on that same medication and it had caused me to gain weight

I doubt sugar free gum hurt and cause weight gain. Stopping smoking is great! And so good for you. The weight will come off, looks like you are doing a good job with your diet.

Sugar free gum does contain calories and carbs, and it can add up if you chew a piece of gum every time you were going to smoke a cigarette, so you might want to watch that. Quitting smoking is worth gaining 6 pounds. BRAVO to you! I quit 23 years ago, and It was the hardest thing I ever gave up (including drugs). So just take it a day at a time, watch your portions and try to stay in your eating plan. By the way, I can weigh twice a day and vary as much as 8 pounds between weighing!!! Give it time.

Nicotine is a stimulant and helps keep your metabolism running faster. I know when I quit 7 years ago the weight piled on. I think I snacked a little bit more maybe but not proportionate to what I gained lol. Add menopause a year later and here I am 50 pounds overweight. But we are far better off as non smokers. The weight will come off slowly with healthy habits! Congrats!

There is no way chewing any kind of gum would make you gain that kind of weight. Check your salt. And macros.

your metabolism slows down when you stop smoking. I read that and no I do not believe everything I read. I smoked for 40 years and stopped cold. I was different and lost weight. Go figure.

yes I quit 20 yrs ago and gained 20 lbs. Metabolism does slow down. Exercise helps. Whatever you do don't go back to the nicotine!!! Proud of you! Quitting was the hardest thing I've ever done. Prayer helps too.

If your doc hasn't told you, one of the side effects of wellbutrin is weight gain
