Adding tomato paste thinned with water, and add caraway spice, also I like red pepper sauce. Also can replace the bacon (or add to it) any kind of sausage or smoked meat (smoked ribs are fantastic)

Basically I've been making this all my adult life and ate it as a child. One of my fave foods! I just cut up some bacon, cook it in the pan I'm going to make the cabbage in, throw in some chopped onion and cook a bit and then the cabbage. I cook it on medium high stirring often until its all coated and starts to wilt. At that time I cover the pan and cook on LOW until its done, stirring occasionally. Never needed water and its soooo yummy! Oh and of course throw in a little salt, pepper and garlic powder. :)

made this the other night and it was great. Next time I'm going to add apples while the cabbage is cooking.Last time we had applesauce and it cost a lot of carbs so this will cut it down and we will begetting our fruit.

I have made this quite often. If you cook it in a stainless pan you can deglaze it with 2 tbl. chicken broth for extra flavor.

This was great! I served it with spicy polish sausage, wonderful. My non-cabbage eating husband had seconds!
