mrsmole's Journal, 18 Feb 14

Only moderately irked that my weight is stagnant and slightly up, but when you keep eating putting things in and nothing's coming out, that is to be expected. I mean, it's basic physics. Sigh.

I didn't complain about it when I was eating terrible junk food non-stop and the only vegetable I ate ever was the pickle on my Big Mac, but now that I'm reformed, now that I've "seen the light", I expect my body to get the memo and move things along! I shouldn't have to live on prunes and spinach.

I do the fiber daily, I do the fruits and veggies. But this has been a lifelong issue, so I guess I shouldn't expect it change overnight. Or ever, for that matter. It was an issue for both my parents, too, so heredity plays a big part, as well. On the upside, I have thick hair, clear skin, nice teeth and naturally low cholesterol.

I guess I will just resign myself to single-handedly putting the California Prune Industry's children through college, that's all.

I considered asking for advice, but I fear that too much experimentation might cause the pendulum to swing too far in the opposite direction and I have a presentation to deliver to a business group tonight, so that could be awkward if nature decides to call at the exact wrong moment.

Thanks for letting me rant.

I've had success with asparagus or green tea before, asparagus has something in it that acts as a diuretic and green tea has caffeine to speed things along :) Drink lots of water too, if you're dehydrated that could be making things worse I think. My friend has suggested flax seed oil and I've heard psyllium husk helps too, although you already said you take in enough fiber... don't do anything rash pre-presentation, I've been there before! :) Good luck!

Ever consider that what you are experiencing might just be normal for you? As long as nature eventually does call, I'd say - why worry. After all, who wants to be like Sheldon (Big Bang Theory)?

ROFL re Sheldon. One of my favorite shows. NOBODY wants to be like Sheldon! Of all of them, I'd rather be like Raj. He has the most heart and is the best cook! Thank you for the big laugh.

Instead of prunes, have you tried Psyllium Husks? Great fiber, you will love it.

Omg! I have been having the same not going issue for almost 2 weeks. I was getting ready to try some supplement (not prunes because I hate them) and low and behold out of nowhere I ate a banana for breakfast because Im out of grapefruit and I have been cured lol!!! I hope you find what works for you soon! (Hug)

Wow, the nurse in my has nothing further to suggest. I know how annoying it can be when everyone is giving you advice and inside your thinking, "Oh gee, I never thought to try that! NOT!" As you said, your parents dealt with this and it isn't really anything new for you. I know how that goes. You are right that one would think that putting healthier food in your body would help regulate things, but you are correct in that genetics do play a role. My sister had me try natural psyllium husks from Trader Joe's. I prefer the gentler, tastier Citrucell, but I was willing to give it a try. It works, but is a little uncomfortable (your feel like you are being "scraped" by the husks). I'll leave that up to you, since you are already taking a fiber remedy and eating fiber-containing foods + prunes. The "Sheldon" comments are just cracking me up! Good luck! I know I sure hate it when things get backed up. At least, no matter what, the weight does go back down after nature finally kicks in, so don't worry about the crazy ups and downs. It all evens out in the end.

You just described me. I am on the idea it might be wheat, when I eat it my stomach feels full and its in there for ever I did a week without and felt so much better. I hope you find your "sweet spot" and things stay moving nicely 😉

Try chia seeds. I used to have your ehem...problem til I started taking a tablespoon of chia seeds a day (I like to add it to my morning protein shakes or top my Greek yogurt with them.

Ground flax seeds. Whole lot cheaper than chia seeds , personally they are out of my budget

Flax is 1/2 the price of chia. That is true, but at 1/3 the fiber it doesn't work out so economically as one might think. That said, I use both each day as well as hemp seeds for their high quality, high density nutrients. The three together make a delicious porridge when combined with coconut milk and MCT oil. Next to nothing in carbs (has zero effect on my blood sugar level) and chock full of nutrients and phytonutrients.

From what I've read, normal can be anything from after each meal to every 5 days. It's when it becomes uncomfortable it has to be dealt with. Besides. You get that big loss form time to time. Crap, this is a disgusting topic. :D

Wow, thank you everyone for the amazing tips. I will try several of these remedies, including the flax, the chia, the Uncle Lee tea and a banana. Money is no object at this point. I would eat shredded dollar bills if I thought that would help. I was even considering a colonic just to sort of...start fresh, like a newborn infant. I've had them before and they are delightful, once you get past the initial strangeness of the experience. Again, thanks to all for the tips. Fingers crossed for a better day.
