Fritzy 22's Journal, 17 Jan 20

6 more days to go on the Daniel fast! I'm very happy and surprised with the weight loss. 9.8 pounds since January 2. I haven't eaten much the past couple days. Had a doctor appointment yesterday morning so only had one meal - just sliced and roasted a yam in the oven and a handful of almonds. I'm not much of a cook and am getting somewhat tired of planning a cooked meal. I think I'll make a meatless stew today and possibly meatless chili tomorrow.

Saw my doctor yesterday. He seemed happy when I told him I was doing the Daniel fast, it's basically how he wants me to eat all the time. About the gallbladder - he said I need to eat a low fat diet if I want to prevent further attacks. The ultrasound showed multiple gall stones. I told him I am usually eating low fat, but not all the time. I do have tacos and cheeseburgers from time to time. He said having the gallbladder removed would be the only way to prevent further attacks unless I stay low fat. And that the healthy fats are fine, avocados, nuts, olive oil. But it's the cholesterol and animal fat that causes me problems. He wants to see me again in a month.

I feel so much better since I got back on track! Much less swelling and don't feel lethargic anymore. Listen to your body. Glad you're doing well!

I’m so glad you haven’t had the surgery yet, best of luck to you.

Do you eat the animal fat like on the outside of a steak? I always cut that off so I only get the slight marbling.

I actually researched the Daniel fast. Yeah that does seem like essentially 'clean eating' 👍🏾

Nice job! That's a lot lost. Hopefully it stays off when/if you eat normally again!

Thanks Shirfleur - I haven't had problems since the 3 gallstone episodes after Thanksgiving. Thanks Adameve! Thanks Tatauu, the stew is just about done! Thanks Diana, I'm glad you are feeling better as well. Najwa - I have to think about the surgery. I don't want to deal with the gallbladder attacks, but not sure about surgery. Peeperjj - I usually avoid the fat if I eat steak, don't eat the skin usually on chicken or turkey. But I made a chuck roast which is really fatty and one of the gallstone attacks happened after eating that. Adefwebserver - Yeah, I've been eating nothing but plants. It's really filling but hard to get enough protein. Thanks Liv and Jcmama! DP - I was up about 3 pounds when I started the fast, but still it's a nice loss for just over 2 weeks. I was hoping to break the fast slowly. The last day is next Wednesday and on Friday I'm going with friend to the new casino and will probably eat at their buffet and then I'm going to the coast on Sunday for several days. So we'll see what happens. I'll try to be as good as possible.

Maybe if you can eat low fat protein and mostly vegetables after the fast you can avoid any more gall bladder attacks. If I don't feel like cooking or planning a meal my go to is a salad with assorted ingredients & a piece of protein cooked in the oven. Pretty easy & tasty if you add a few spices.

Thanks Keyten! A couple years ago when my doctor first told me to stop eating processed foods and meats I did what he said. I still had a glass of skim milk a day, sometimes a glass of juice and had mostly chicken as my protein. I lost 16 pounds the first month and 7 pounds the next. Then I just stopped because it was just too hard and too quick of a switch. So I figured since the Daniel fast was much stricter than what I had done before that I might be able to lose 10 pounds in the 21 days. I am going to try to eat a mostly plant based diet. SherryeB - Because my cholesterol was high as well as having gallstones, I think eating very little red meat, egg yolks and shrimp will help. I am going to try to go meatless 4-5 times a week at least. I was told it was okay to drink skim milk is okay - since there's no fat it won't cause gall stone attacks. I hardly ever make salads for some reason. A head of lettuce goes to waste in my house but I do stir fry quite a bit.

Try using leafy greens in your salads. I don't eat iceberg lettuce, usually. I buy prewashed lettuce and add tomatoes, cucumber, crunchy stuff, other veggies, fruit, cheese, hard boiled egg etc. Just be aware of the calorie count in whatever you add. I thought since you don't like to cook salads would be a great option. Stir fries are great, too!

Sherry - sometimes I make salads using spinach and the bag of coleslaw mix - chopped cabbage. That's usually the only bagged salad mix I'll buy. I like iceberg lettuce, also will buy red leaf and butter lettuce. I just don't make them often, because I have to use up the lettuce pretty quick and I don't like eat salads 2 or 3 or more days in a row. Once in awhile I will though.
