WendyMaq's Journal, 09 Aug 18

I had my annual female check yesterday. He couldn't have been any more disinterested. This is pretty much my appointment. Doc: Well, you aren't due for a pap so we don't need to do an exam. Was there anything you'd like to talk about? Me:(thinking: really? Why do we call it an annual, then?) Well, yes, I've been experiencing pain with intercourse and vaginal dryness. Doc: You're still regular (menstruating)? Me: Yep. I missed June, but every 23 - 28 days is the norm. Doc: You're not menopausal, so estrogen won't help (me thinking: okaaay... I don't want estrogen). Have you tried any OTC lubrication? Me: Not really, I wanted to talk with you first. I've been on a wellness path and been trying to remove toxins from my body... Doc:(interrupts) Toxins are everywhere, in you food, in your clothes... Me: Yes, I know. Which is why I'm trying to reduce them. Do you have any recommendations? Doc: Just start experimenting. Anything else? Me: Well, yes, I've been having pain in my lower abdomen. I wanted to talk about the fibroid tu... Doc: (interrupting again) If it was the tumor, there would be lots of blood. Me: Oh! Okay, but I've been having these pains... Doc:(interrupting again) Everybody gets cramps for a number of reasons. If there isn't anything else we're all set until next year. Me: ...I guess not. That's it folks. That was my appointment. I left with nothing. No exam, no mammogram, no answers... (For those questioning, my grandmother had uterine cancer, my grandfather had breast cancer, and my mother had a plasmacytoma.) To give you an idea of how much the medical industry has changed, this is the man who delivered my son. The man whose praises I have been singing for 20 years. The man whose own child interned with my husband so he could graduate from college. He is now the man to whom I will not return, next year or any other.

Seeing may favorite Doc this afternoon. I'll fill him in on that appointment and ask if he knows of a naturopathic women's health Doc, too. I also think it's time I see the gastro guy about the hiatal hernia. Haven't slept well all week because of GERD. Doesn't matter what I eat, it feels like it's backing up into my throat. Chest pain... Not bad like it was the night of the incident, but that went away in 45 minutes. This has gone on for days. Which makes me believe 'the incident' was an esophageal spasm instead of cardiac. Still... it got me on the exercise path, which needed to happen. My joints are killin' me. I am so stiff... I'm really frustrated. I'm feel like I'm going backwards instead of progressing. My feet are cramping, my knees, back, and hips hurt... Can high humidity really wreak this much havoc on a body???

Dang it! I got distracted again. I was going to head to the gym an hour ago, but decided to "weigh in" before I left. If you have gotten this far... Kudos! Have a fantastic week!! Blasting off to Planet Fitness.

I have had good success with coconut oil but there was a stretch where nothing really helped. I didn't have a partner though so it was all going at my place. Good luck, might be time for a younger doctor

have you thought about food sensitivities?? when I add healthy foods to my diet I tend to have a lot of troubles and it is all related to what I am eating. when you are at the doctors office ask about being tested. I am sorry your doctor was an a%%, I don't know why he would not do an exam pretty weird.

Very strange behavior for a doctor, particularly if it is a change from previous behavior. Maybe he is having psychological issues? Really sorry you did not get some answers, at least, if not relief. But I routinely have issues with the medical community being somewhere between unhelpful to problematic, so unfortunately I am not surprised. Hope you get relief soon! BTW, my dad had hiatal hernia surgery which created at least as much of a problem as it fixed: closed up too tight.

Agree with tomlong, maybe he has something weird going on. However, that doesn't excuse his behavior. What a jerk. Definitely follow up with someone else.

Shine on - even in the face of medical complacency... here's hoping that any other practitioners you spend money on are worth their proverbial salt!

You need to find another doctor, one who listens to you rather than interrupting you to hear their own voice.

Potassium is a life saver for cramps. since I started taking one a day I have no leg cramps and that time of month cramps are reduced.

I wouldn't give up on that doctor if he is one you have been familiar with for so many years. He is human and could have stuff going on in his life that has him a little distracted. Call back there and talk to the nurse. Ask when your last pap was done because you just came in thinking it was time for it again and was told it wasn't. Then ask for an appt for when it is time to redo, or ask for a one-on-one consultation with the doctor - this is where you just sit and talk to him about what happened and how things went. Think how many times each of us has an off day at work. If we got fired for it then we would be changing jobs constantly.

We are all human and have things that happen to us and we don't always act right while out in the world - maybe your doc did as well - but you should get the care you need so all the best finding someone new

Sorry about the doc. They have to get so many patients in per hour. Kinda like a cattle drive. Anyway, I used to have a small 4 ounces of beer each month when the pain hit. So much better than darvon, in my day..

Just yesterday I heard on the radio that women doctors get better results that male doctors. Granted they were talking about heart attacks, but the observations made were startling. Male doc talk more. Female docs listen more. Female are more likely to follow protocol, males not as much. Inherent bis was discussed, too - i.e. women get hysterical more easily so their complaints are more easily dismissed. Here's the link to listen if you want: https://www.kcrw.com/news-culture/shows/press-play-with-madeleine-brand/crazy-rich-asians-director-win-or-lose-im-supposed-to-do-this-movie/women-are-more-likely-to-survive-heart-attacks-if-treated-by-female-doctors-study-says

Glad you dropped this guy. Why no PAP, no mammogram, and it sure seems like blood work and an ultrasound are in order. I went through 10 different doctors before ending up at UC Davis with the head of neurology before getting a proper diagnosis.
