jmb3450's Journal, 20 May 15

Well my latest creative adventures have me getting into making cheese. That should complement the beer and wine making well. So far I've just done simple fresh cheeses but sometime in the next week or so I'll be starting some more ambitious stuff...thinking of doing havarti, cheddar, and maybe a beer cheese with some whiskey barrel stout my brother made. I assembled an external thermostat controller that'll set a dorm fridge to 50 degree range temps and use it as my "cheese cave" for aging. And I've got some sourdough bread in a tupperware container culturing penicillium roqueforti mold to make blue cheese.

On the weight loss side of things my wife Shelley has joined us here, she's Shelleybean1029. We're doing the lose 10 lbs in a month challenge and she's off to a great start. It's nice having my life partner also be my partner in weight loss.

Nice to see that you both are working on this journey together. Cheese making sounds intriguing....I was feeling smug about canning and making breads but this is over the top for me! Way to go....

A lot of partners are motivated to lose weight because of the attention we start getting as we look more and more attractive. Positive side effect of our weight loss.

Thanks for all the comments everyone. Don't pat me on the back too much, we'll have to wait and see how the more difficult cheeses turn out. My mozzarella of a couple nights ago didn't but I think it's because of the milk I used. Supermarket milk can be problematic, a friend at church has a dairy farm so I'll see if he'll sell me some fresh milk for future batches. LoadGod I'm in Middletown MD, c'mon over! My brother made that particular stout and secondary fermentation was with oak chips soaked in whiskey.

That's only about a four-hour drive.
