HCB's Journal, 14 May 15

Greetings Buddies,

The best news is the last time the trainer did the bodyfat calipers on me he said I am DOWN 1.4% bodyfat! My bodyfat still is too high (above 30) - just like my weight and BMI - but slowly it is improving!

The bad news is I still have inflamed sinuses likely from allergies - so I started the antibiotic Tuesday. Not too happy about it, but I want to feel better.

ADDENDUM: Got this from chron.com

Body Fat for Adult Females

There’s a reason why females have a harder time losing those extra pounds. Nature gave a woman more enzymes to store fat and less to burn it in case she needs to support a developing baby. As a result, women have about 5 percent more body fat than men. A healthy body fat percentage for an 18-year-old girl is between 17 and 30 percent, while a 19-year-old should fall between 19 and 31 percent. Adult females 20 to 39 years should strive for a body fat percentage between 21 and 32 percent. Forty to 59-year-old women should fall within the 23 to 33 percent range, while those 60 years and older should be between 24 and 35 percent.

Maybe I am typical for a 60 year old woman - about 35% body fat!

Words of the week:
"Food is fuel for our bodies, not the answer to problems."

I am dedicated, determined and diligent.

From your profile picture I find that a little hard to believe I would figure around 28% maybe. Great it is going down :)

very nice! I am focusing more on BF% these days. If you haven't you should go see an EENT about the sinuses, maybe something else is keeping them from draining.

I hate antibiotics too, but if you don't catch that now the infection can spread to your ears, bronchial tubes or lungs (voice of experience). Feel better soon!

That is awesome!!!! Keep it up. It is exciting to see when your BF% decreases

Yes - I use the nasal swish - Neti Pot - but I am so stuffed with the allergies the solution goes in to my ear canals instead of where it should!

Here's a site that you may find helpful, I'll put the link below. I found that I'm in the "average" body fat range for my age, however the "ideal" range is lower. Working on getting there. Remove the spaces and replace "DOT" with a period on the link. www DOT builtlean DOT com /2010/08/03/ ideal - body-fat- percentage-chart

@Nicholaix! I agree - I am going to continue to work on body fat reduction and want to get to at most 30% - for my age that may be the best...but you never know! Anything down is always good!

Congrats on the BF%. Is there a way to determine the approximate % without having to see a trainer or Nutritionist? I am sure mine is over what a 41 yr old should have.

This is good information. Thanks!!

My doctor told me yesterday that mine was 28%, but sorry, I can still pinch an inch (or two) and my thighs jiggle. So the charts are guidelines, but ultimately the less body fat we carry around, the more energy we'll have and the cleaner those clothing lines will fall. So congrats on the body fat drop!

That is good information. =)

It is interesting how BF% is so much better to track than the number on the scale. I was doing some fun research and found women my height and around my age..they were 143 lbs...but 17% BF. They had the body I pretty much strive for.. But the key here is that some of them ranged 135-143 lbs They are not 120...110... Why? Because they have some awesome lean muscle!!! I say keep tracking BF% because that is what you want to lose while building lean muscle mass.
