Fritzy 22's Journal, 26 Apr 22

I know if I am going to keep walking daily I have to start early as it gets warmer. If I wait until 9am it's usually too warm for me in the summer months. I got out this morning at 6:42! Felt good about it until I reached "the hill". I just wasn't up for the challenge this morning. Walked about 50 steps and then turned around. I did turn on a level side street to do some more walking and when I got home it was 35 minutes for the walk which isn't too bad. Sometimes I just have zero energy. Someone posted about BMI a few days ago and I've been almost depressed ever since. I checked several calculators and I knew I was in the obese category. But I also figured out if I lose 25 pounds I will still be obese. The weight loss is slower this time. I normally lose 5-7 pounds a month if I really stick to a plan. I've only lost 7 pounds since January 1st. Yesterday I heard from a friend who had told me she had an EKG at her last doctor appointment and it wasn't normal (they did it 3 times) so she just had an echocardiogram and now has been referred to a cardiologist. She says she needs to lose about 25 pounds. I know she normally eats healthier than I do and walks more. It sounds scary. I've been worrying about my health. So far, even at my extreme weight I don't have high blood pressure, diabetes and my doctor has never expressed a concern about my heart. But I have a family history of heart problems - both parents and all 3 of my sisters. I have a long way to go with my weight loss and am just feeling a little blue today, especially after having trouble on my walk.

Keep your head up Fritzy. You may not have conquered the hill today. You did get out and walk and you figured out a way to keep going, even if it wasn't uphill! Yea You! You are dedicated to being the best you. Look for a small tweak that you can make to your plan. Success breeds success! You Can Do It!

I agree with SLYONE, we have to celebrate successes. You are walking... you are working on it and you are making progress. Pick your chin up...You are doing well

Thanks Slyone and Liv - I'm just feeling sorry for myself today. I'll get over it. The eating is actually going well. I'm staying within my calorie limits and I'm not really craving things in spite of nothing but burger, pizza and fried chicken commercials on TV.

The cardiac concern is real - and it is a tweak to your plan and very motivational. You are doing all of the right things - if you just stay in RDI and walk a little - it will happen. There are no big overnight miracles. If the TV is promoting too much commercialism - you do own that - so shut it off and put on some music. You do have absolute control over the television.

I get you on the BMI - wow - that is a lot of work to get there - I had to go down from 205.9 to 145 just to get into the high end of the "Normal - Healthy" BMI zone - my heart had started to hurt and that is a motivator. Weight loss seems to be for many a Life Time project - and it is - I spent the month of April - trying to stay in the Caloric Zone where I actually lose weight - since I had been just "maintaining" - and it has taken me --- Almost all month - to lose .4 of a pound. I just laugh because I am much healthier than I was and I am much more active than I was - the real benefits are - maybe better friends - a richer knowledge base - much better food & meals - because I am actually involved in my own LIFE - since this is for life. Just keep it up - you are doing all of the right things and you do have good company.

Thanks Jergens. I have the TV on all the time, just for the noise. I was trying to make the point that I am really motivated to eat right at this time so the commercials don't tempt me at all. But at times when I am vulnerable I often want to find an Arby's!

My friend walks every day at 5:30 in the morning to escape the heat. She loves it. I’m not a morning person.

Hey you got out and walked! I count that as a win! You got out there and that’s what counts. Baby steps are still steps!

Thanks Katsolo - I am a morning person. IF I have any energy it's usually before noon. I'm usually done by 2 or 3pm. Once it's light at 5:30am I may get outside for a walk. Right now though I am really lazy in the mornings even though I'm awake. Thanks Yet - I appreciate your support. Thanks Stat1RN - I'll try again tomorrow. I do better walking on level ground, but there are nothing but hills where I live. I do know all the places in my neighborhood where it is almost level but no matter where I walk there's a hill to get home.

You can’t fix the past. All you can do is continue to try not to become yet another statistic. If you are having that much trouble with your hills it might be worth talking to your doc about it. Otherwise, just keep moving forward and try to do a little better each day.

Regarding your friend: we never really know what other people eat. Some sneak & eat. Even here on FS, someone can post mostly healthy dinners and moan about how they can't lose weight. But pop into their Food Diary and you'll see that they drink also drank 2 bottles of wine (10 glasses) and 2 White Russians. And the next day they drank a bottle of wine and a whiskey. And the next day it was 2 bottles of wine. Just because they don't talk about it doesn't mean that it there aren't some secret health saboteurs happening. But just in case you're worried about things, just ask the doctor to run you new tests for your cholesterol and a1c. Peace of mind and reducing anxiety is also part of health.

Great on the walking. Well done!

Speaking of Doctors. I have a Primary Care Physician who makes sure I get my yearly physical exam with all blood test. Plus good preventative care for my health in between. I have a phone appointment (not a face to face) in 2 days. He will be THRILLED that I am on fat secret and eating healthy food. I have a family history of relatives having more than one stroke or heart attack or both. Therefore I have also been sent to a Cardiologist every 6 months for an exam, and sometimes tests. I am so lucky for the medical care I am receiving. AND fat secret is going to be a large part of my health plan.

At least you went on a walk!! Don’t give up, you can do this! :) Cut out refined sugar and that alone should help! Up your protein, lower the sugar.

Agree with you all. Such good fs knowledge.

Thanks Kenna - I see my doctor next week and I'll tell my doctor about my difficulty walking up hills. I'm pretty sure it's my weight. I get out of breath going up inclines but have no trouble at all when I walk where the road is level or goes downhill. A few years ago I started walking and eventually could walk up to 10 miles in my neighborhood and I didn't even notice this hill that is causing me so much trouble right now. I'll just keep on trying. Thanks Petra ! Thanks Bananas - I just meant that I know my friend tends to eat healthier than I do unless I am really making an effort. We used to hike together all the time and she's gone with me to the coast a couple of times. I always would say how hard it is for me to eat vegetables and she would tell me she used the grill almost every night and loves vegetables. Her husband has so many health issues and a really bad diet. I see my doctor a couple times a year at least. He runs test regularly and is very familiar with my health issues. I'll ask him if it's time to check my cholesterol again or my blood sugar. Thanks Sugarplum - I also have a good doctor who gives me advice on how to eat (an anti inflammation diet reducing or eliminating processed foods). FS is really a great place to keep track of meals and get support from others. Thanks StormyGirl - I put sugar in my coffee, I just can't drink it black. But I don't normally add sugar to anything else. To "up my protein" isn't as easy as it sounds since I don't eat meat on a daily basis but I try to get 40-60 grams of protein minimum each day.

I'm sorry you are feeling low, fizzy. You are one of my favorite people here. You keep trudging, girl! 7 pounds down is down! You can only move forward! I can't really imagine walking in such heat. Today my mom all was partly in icey rain, and I was so glad to get to shelter. I hope you will find a way to keep walking in the mornings. I'm sure Bobby would be so happy too!

We all fall into a slump, but when we do we feel like we are the only one there. I know, been in them more than out lately, but you'll be on top soon. Know that.

Thanks Melissa - I can't walk in the heat but the mornings are nice and cool even in the summer normally. I just have to get up early enough. I set a small weight goal of 15 pounds to start with so I don't get overwhelmed by the total I need to lose. Bobby loves walking - today we passed 6 deer and lots and lots of wild turkeys. Thanks Adameve - it helps if I don't step on the scale every day, especially if the number doesn't seem to budge.
