Fritzy 22's Journal, 20 Apr 22

I had to go to the grocery store again! 4th time in just over a week. Now I am remembering why I never stick to this way of eating. Too much grocery shopping to keep fresh produce in the house. And I don't really like to cook. But I'm glad I went today, in spite of the 30 minute drive each way. I bought green grapes again. I am really loving them and the ones I got today are even better than the ones from last week. I also bought more blackberries and pineapple. Today they had the Smucker's blackberry jam I have been looking for for the last month or so. Looks like they just got it in. I bought 2 jars. Yesterday I made tacos. They were so good I made the same thing for lunch today. Tomorrow I hope to stir fry the brussels sprouts, asparagus and onions. I walked this morning around 8am. I'm so happy I'm able to get up the hill and do a loop to get home. It's about 45 minutes. I've done it 3 times since last week. Another time I just got to the top of the hill and then turned around and once I didn't get very far at all, but at least I got outside. We are supposed to get rain tonight and tomorrow, maybe heavy rain which would really be nice.

Fritzy, Grapes freeze well (they're fantastic cool treats with summer coming). Avocado ripens very slowly when covered in water and placed in the refrigerator. There are also many tips online. Hope this helps.

I get bulk frozen vegetables and fruits - much more predictable and I can get through it without stuff going bad

Thanks Sherry - I don't like grocery shopping much. During the pandemic I would only go about once a month. But I am liking the fruit! I may renew my Coscto membership. I used to keep bags on the frozen triple berry mix I'd buy there. Good for smoothies or just to heat up and have for breakfast. Thanks Livin - I'll try to freeze the grapes because someone else mentioned that. I am loving the grapes! I think they are the best I've ever had. Abba - I don't like frozen vegetables except for starchy vegetables - corn and peas. I tried blanching brussels sprouts but didn't like them. I like some frozen fruit well enough.

Cheers, Fritzy. I'm so spoiled... I do the cleaning and laundry. Denise does the shopping and cooking. I have the better deal.

Sounds like you are doing pretty good. There is some planning involved with cooking and eating healthy. I agree. Right now I live close to a grocery store but we plan to move where I will be in your shoes... half an hour to the nearest store...

Maybe try buying some from the freezer section to make it stretch a little farther. I love going to the store though. 😍

That all sounds great - Good for you! Free produce and fruits are at least a weekly market trip - I rely a lot on frozen veggies and berry fruits and canned fruits - not so much canned veggies (I don't really use those) but yah - the fast frozen veggie selection of today offers a highly affordable array. Sounds as if everything is working for you - that is great!

I love cooking healthy and I always cook everything from scratch- very vegetarian. I only get groceries once a week (family of 4.) You can definitely keep vegetables and fruit fresh for a week.

Frityz22. I do cheater cooking. Lots of freezer stuff with easy cooking. And fresh fruit. I am starting on oatmeat, which I dislike, and have decided to add frozen fruit and Torani sugar-free vanilla syrup to it to disguise it. I try to balance but am just learning how to succeed at that. Only 3 weeks in. My meal consists off something like a seasoned pork chop (Weber seasoning) cooked frozen Brussels sprouts and a Fage yogurt. (5% has less carbs.) I don't cook well and for me the simpler the better. I will start reaching out to recipes soon. The fs family has great recipes. I have my food and groceries delivered through SHIPT and it makes it easier to compose a healthy shopping list. I shop often too. Yall are doing sooooo well and it is an inspiration. Thanks for being on fs just for me! :))

Thanks Bill! Laundry and cleaning or shopping and cooking. Not sure which ones I'd prefer. Thanks Liv! There is a small grocery store really close to me. I've been shopping there alot but the big grocery store has much better produce. I usually do other errands or shopping when I drive the 30 minutes to the grocery store. Yesterday I looked for walking shoes. Thanks Kenna - I usually roast or stir fry the brussels sprouts. Love them with a little brown on them. Don't like them steamed or boiled which is how my mom made them. Thanks Pet Parent! Thanks Otb - Its not easy to get any kind of food delivered where I live. Very rural and away from cities. Thanks Sandy - I did lots of prep work when I bought a bunch of veggies and still haven't used most of them! Thanks CMJ - I am motivated right now, just hope I stay that way. Thanks First Day - I don't like many vegetables from the freezer section, but the fruit isn't bad. Good morning Jergens! I have some canned fruit - pineapple and mandarin oranges for times when I just don't get out to the store. There is a small farmer's market in my community on Thursdays. I may check it out today. But it is really small and I'm not really interested in tomatoes and they seem to have more bakers selling things than farmers. Thanks Immort777 - I was surprised that the grapes were good for at least 5 days after I bought them. I'm still trying to figure out how much produce to buy without wasting it. I tend to buy too much and throw things away. So I'm buying smaller amounts and then have to go back to the store for more. Eventually I'll figure it out. Thanks Sugarplum - I don't like oatmeal either. I know it's very healthy and I've tried to eat it. About a year ago I added put chopped almonds, berries and honey and still didn't like it. I can't get groceries delivered so I do go out to the grocery stores.

I'm not good at grocery shopping or cooking. So all my meals are very simple. At this time. I have SHIPT do my shopping for me a couple of times a week. I use frozen cooked veggies, and fresh fruit; both I need to replenish regularly. The rest of my foods are not so perishable.
