FullaBella's Journal, 25 Mar 14

Tuesday Morning - March 25th. If you’d have told me two years ago I’d have had the day I had yesterday … well… you’d have received the Classic Bella “Smirk”. I’m old enough to know ‘Never Say Never’ but would never have believed I would 1) intentionally buy much less ride a bicycle AND 2) play tennis. On the same day. In public. And enjoy it.

Then again, I would not have expected to be eating Liver & Onions for breakfast either, but I am. This is one of my favorites (sorry Evelyn) but I’ve been skipping breakfast for a while to IF via ‘bullet proof coffee’ instead. I was feeling a little hungry this morning even after three pints of water and two cups of coffee so I thought I’d try some real food and see if it curtails the massive headaches I’ve been getting around 10am.

Just as I was submitting my journal yesterday and grabbing Mushy to go for ‘the First Ride’ my grandson phoned to let me know his ‘doubles match’ would be starting soon. Sigh. I felt like a Frosted Mini Wheat commercial. The child in me wanted to go play with my new toy; the adult voice said ‘Go, be a good Nana’. So, Mushy and I went to the match.

While watching I found myself thinking ‘Hmmm.. think I’d like to give this a try...’ and asked the Gson afterward if he could borrow a racket from one of his buddies to swat a few with his Nana before his singles match started. Yeah. Me. In front of crowds. Walking past all those parents and kids to the ‘open court’. Not caring if they thought ‘seriously, her?’ Not caring that I wasn’t appropriately attired. Relieved I was wearing sneakers. Drowning out the drive-by obscenity shouted from car. I have a fairly awesome serve but that’s about it. No hand eye coordination and twice watched the racket fly out of my hand on the backswing. But I am going to get a racket and make this a regular ‘thang’ with the grandson.

Heck, I may even go to batting practice with the other Gson although I really don’t like things flying at my face that fast. I often think I’d like playing baseball but perhaps from centerfield.

There was still a lot of sun in the sky when returned home so I plunked Mushy in the basket and off we went. I believe this is the first time I’ve ridden a bike in over four decades. Beautiful late afternoon. I stuck to the side & backstreets as much as possible. Even stopped and talked to a Police Officer (not Sheriff Andy, darn it) about the laws. Mushy never whimpered. I think she liked it. Or was too terrified to move. Either way, she was along for the ride and I enjoyed it. And I actually got a little sweat on.

It’s tough sometimes making decisions that go against Cutty’s opinion. I could see him flipping out over the bike; and not in a good way, worried about my safety. Just as I could see him making ‘the face’ when I bought white capris this weekend. He hated them because ‘they aren’t pants, they aren’t shorts, they just look confused.’ So, two ‘cons’ from Cutty in one week. Wonder what the third thing will be?

I know how my twisted brain works so I’m not approaching either (Tennis or Bike) using the “E” word. Wait, maybe I will. ENJOYMENT. No goal or agenda other than joy. With my stinking thinking and eating disorders I don’t want to connect those (or any other) physical events to an anticipated expectation they will result in weight loss. I don’t want to step on a scale and be disappointed that stepping on the tennis court or bike pedals didn’t move the needle.

Closed out the day under RDI - first in a while. No Midnight Munching Madness. That’s 7, count ‘em SEVEN in a row.

Another day, another chance to get it right. Then get up tomorrow and do it all over again. Cheers.

Absolutely fabulous, Bella. You have spent so much time focusing on how to moderate foods that you love, its high time you started finding some active-ities that you love as well. Good for the body, even better for the soul and also great for the confidence. Im proud of you, and will be thinking of you the next time I try something new... perhaps ill try tennis. My husband used to play but I always wrote myself off as not being althletic at all. Seven days, dare I say thats an entire week. Heres to making it two ;-)

So glad you found something you really enjoyed. And it is pretty awesome that it is something the grand kid enjoys too.

I can just envision little Mushy in the front with the wind blowing through her hair and you with a big smile on your face! Glad to hear that you had so much fun yesterday getting out and moving around. I wish our weather allowed for biking and tennis, but not quite yet. Have an excellent day and well done on the midnight madness!

Awesome! I think ANYTHING we do to move our bodies is a plus for our overall physical well being. I think just the vibration alone keeps us from freezing up! Tennis is amazing. I've tried a few times but can't seem to master it. Love that Mushy goes along for the ride.

Truly wonderful, enjoy! And you are so right it does not have to be about a weight loss goal. But to know that you will benefit from being active and having fun is awesome. Congrats on NMMM #7. :)

Hi Bella, love sharing your joy. Enjoy the capris, the bike, the tennis, all of it. You have earned this joy. You could never have done any of that before you lost the weight and fix/ed/ing the stinking thinking.
