Debbie Cousins's Journal, 11 Aug 20

I'm beginning to think I'm going to weigh 237 for the rest of my life! This is the FIFTH day at that same weight, UGH. This is starting to get discouraging. At least I did have SOME lost last week, so that is some consolation. It's so much more satisfying when the weight loss is FASTER, huh? I really admire those of you who only lose like 1/2 pound a week, but do it FOREVER and really take the weight off!

The Shingles isn't bothering me as much now. Guess the meds are effective.

Kids came over for swim lesson yesterday, but I didn't get into the pool. They were still around me and in the car with me, but hopefully they won't get chickenpox.

That's my life.

Good morning ! I have always gotten frustrated with daily weigh ins so just do it once a week. It is more likely that day to day fluctuations have to do with movement of food and water retention in your body. You don't lose or gain weight that quickly that there is any reliability on the daily weight change. Maybe you should try weighing less realizing the standing rule is it takes 3500 calories to lose a pound. All the best !

For the last 5 months, I have averaged a 1 pound loss a month. It seems I have to starve to lose any weight. What I can gain in 6 weeks can take me a year or more to lose. Yes, it is frustrating. Your 5-pound loss last week did not really represent 5 x 3600 calories. I'm glad you had it, even if it was just water, to give you a boost or lift, but we do come back to reality. And the older we get, I find it harder and harder to lose. I do not throw my old clothes away anymore. I take pants and skirts in, by running a seam down the side. Nowadays I don't even cut off the excess anymore. I know if my back is terrible or my husband almost dies (or worse) I may gain it all back again. I was sorry you gave away those 17 bags of clothes when you started gaining again. Yes, we can lose some weight. Maybe not as much, maybe not as fast. But we will feel better if we stay away from bread and all high carbs, and processed foods. Eating out (or take-in) is treacherous too. How can we encourage you to do those hard things that you know are good for you? We love you and are rooting for you. Good thing I'm not there, because it would be so hard to be near you and not hug you!

I wonder if you could shock your system-fasting one day or just low cal liquids one day.

Try not to focus on your daily weight loss so much as your daily GAINS. For example, are exercising more, making better food choices, have more energy, stressing less? ALL of that is a GAIN!

I get it. I have been stalled at the same point for 3 weeks. Despite eating under my RDI AND joining a walking challenge where I've walked 28 miles so far. I just broke the plateau - and HOW??? an old WW trick. I took 2 days and actually ate OVER my RDI - yep went for ice cream for the FIRST time this summer. Then did a mexican patio dinner with friends and didn't count my portions, just enjoyed, and even had a little homemade ice cream and lemon bread. Next day, back to counting and walking and this morning dropped back down. Something about changing up and adding in some calories to reassure your body you aren't starving and it's ok to let go of some fat. The secret is NOT to let those two days become two weeks. Just get right back in the game. also keep drinking water during that time helps.

Give yourself a break as shingles is a monster. I'm sure you'll find your groove once you feel better.

I felt that way last week. I was so discouraged because the scale numbers didn't budge...in fact I went up a pound. But keep with it. All of a sudden the dial started moving!

I know how you feel. Story of my life too. TBH I got really sick of it. I am now trying "The Anderson Method" I found this book in Kindle by William Anderson. I refer back to it when I have cravings and it helps. Logical when he explains that overeating causes overweight, so in order to lose weight, we have to "under eat". I started on Monday and I've lost nearly 2kg already. I don't care if this is an eating disorder or if I'm "starving myself" (I already have binge eating disorder anyway!) it works and I am feeling well and happy! His book cost me less than $10 which is A LOT cheaper than all the other weight loss aids I have paid for! Thousands of dollars wasted on so much rubbish that got me nowhere, including unused gym memberships, Weight Watchers, holistic appointments, you name it I did it. Hope this helps if you want to check it out. Read the reviews first. I do not know the author in any way shape or form. Good luck

Hang in there! You’ll reach your goal just have to push past the struggling parts, which are always the beginning! You got this! You got kids and shingles that’s a lot to tackle but you’ve kept going this entire time! Celebrate the small victories! Rooting for you 🥳

I looked back on my Daily Accountability results for the last three weeks and see that altogether, I've lost 8.5 pounds. Even though it was only 1.5 pounds for this week, it averages almost 3 pounds a week, so I'm happy for that. Still chugging along, eating all the right stuff. I've got a LONG way to go to get back to where I was last spring. I think I'll change my goal weight to 10 or 20 pound increments - that way I can feel like I'm making better progress.

The meds could be hampering the lose..? Maybe??

I agree, the meds are probably having you retain water, when they go bye bye, so will the weight.

You have done great overall. Shingles are not fun. I itched like crazy. As far as the kids, hope they stay healthy. Are they in school?

Sometimes you stall because you're body is in the WTF mode and cannot make up it's mind and those are frustrating! I keep bouncing from 196 to 204 and I don't change my diet up.

I agree with alot of the comments on here. Probably the meds slowing you down a bit. Don't lose hope it will get better. 👍👍

Average over a week. Remember if you are on meds it will often make a difference. Keep remember ing that slow is good it means a greater chance of keeping it off for the long term ..
