Bird watching again, one of my distractions from thinking about food. I love the little house finches best, they're so cute and sing so sweetly. The bully white-wing has met it's match, one of the ring-necks decided it had enough and started pushing back, and now it's the king of the roof. There are three squirrels now, one is quite young. But best of all is when the cardinals deign to make a brief appearance, so beautiful they take my breath away! The highlight of my day, number 82 in isolation. 😁

I am so glad you have your furry and feathered friends to watch and enjoy. I have never seen a cardinal other than in a picture. I imagine they are stunning. I too love the house finches with their rosy colors. Hang in there, Shirfleur. This is so tough, but you are winning! 🥇

Cardinals are so very pretty. I love it when they sit on my fence post.

I love watching and listening to my cats, watching the birds and chipmunks through the window. They clatter and chirp

I enjoy birding too. Cardinals are our state bird and we see a lot of them. Finches are also my favorite and I only put out seed for them. Everyone else have excess to our plantings. A robin has a nest near my back door that I have been watching the progress. Humming birds have already made their exit north...

My daily bird sightings include pelicans, herons, egrets, martins, gulls, terns, grackles, occasional ducks, ibises, kingfishers, roseate spoonbills. If we go to the beach, there are plovers this time of year, and sanderlings in addition to some of the above. I love watching birds. It took me several year of living here and going to the beach to discover that the terns weren't gulls.

Cardinals are pretty to see but my least favorite sound to be woken up to. :) Such an easily identifiable song.

Metamora, where do you live? In my other life we used to keep a boat down on the gulf coast, on the Mermentau River near Grand Chenier, and all those birds were down there, plus, in the winter, there were thousands of ducks and geese, because that's part of the Mississippi Flyway. I especially loved the roseate spoonbills and the white pelicans (though I love brown pelicans too). Jc, I used to feed the hummingbirds, ruby-throats and rufous when I had a house. Considering that I live in the middle of the city, I consider myself lucky with the variety I've seen. There is a bluejay that's stopped by briefly, and I see and hear mockingbirds, though none have visited. The grackles appear to be interested, but they haven't approached. No robins at this time of year. I've never been an official birder, but I've always been interested in them, and it appears many of you are too. A wonderful distraction during this time of isolation.

We set up 3 blue bird houses a few years ago and I'm so glad we did. They are beautiful and I enjoy watching husband and wife take care of their home.

I was so, so sad the other day because a steller's Jay (I think it looks and sounds like a cardinal in a bright blue coat) was at my feeder, and a neighbor cat grabbed him before my very eyes! I raced out the door in hope the poor thing might get away... But the wretched cat was just disappearing around the corner. I know the cat was just doing what is natural, but it was MY bird, and the jays don't come often!!!!!

Princess, cardinals do have a distinctive song, but what I hear most here are the doves. When I had a house, we would often hear the quail early in the morning, and I would sometimes walk out to see one sitting on the roof. There are 470 bird species in Louisiana, mainly because of the many different types of habitat. 🎵🎶🎶🐦

Melissa, outdoor cats (mostly unowned) kill about 2.4 billion birds in the USA each year.

Angel, I've only seen bluebirds once in Houston. They are so beautiful!

I, also, have quite a showing of birds here. Feeder for the wild birds and a feeder for the hummingbirds. also put out a container of water. Love watching the birds take baths, drink and eat. My daytime "therapy" :) I really don't like watching TV during daylight hours. Too many other things that I like to give my attention to.

And that is one of the many reasons my two kitties stay inside at all times. 😁

Shir, I have been trying to snap a pic of my golden orioles all week for you. They continue to elude the camera. It’s maddening!!!

Kattay, I really don't watch TV, just some Netflix. But I agree, watching birds and squirrels is better. I really don't have a place for a hummingbird feeder, which is too bad.
