Okay. So this lovely young man dating my daughter brought over Krispy Kreme doughnuts. I have over 500 calories left that I could eat today and each doughnut is 120 calories. I know some people recommend the occasional treat, but I find it easier to avoid junk altogether, rather than have it in moderation. Also, I generally don't feel great after eating doughnuts. I've also noticed I haven't hit my fiber goal yet so I think I going to try to find 6 more grams of fiber somewhere instead. Luckily for me my downfall is crunchy, salty snacks. I like sweets, but it's easier for me to turn them down than to turn down chips or crunchy Cheetoh's! I got this!

I decided to eat blueberries and strawberries instead. Much better choice!

If he is a “keeper”, teach him about different kinds of “treats” in your world.

Yep, your body's getting a lot more nutrition from the fresh fruit snack than the trans fats, gluten and sugar- the anti-nutrients - - in the donuts. Good choice! And I agree, a good teachable moment for the boyfriend.

I'm with you..Once I eat something sweet I am back for more. I stay away from sweets altogether. Nice gesture from the boyfriend though.

Good for you - a mindful choice. I still crave chocolate and ice cream (and eat lo/no sugar versions) but I can leave cake / donuts / bagels alone.

I have made my own chips out of those low carb tortillas. They are really pretty good, are low carb and high in fiber. Brush with a little olive oil and bake. I often make my own salsa but I also buy a wonderful salsa at Walmart that is low carb and naturally low in sodium— it is called Green Mountain Gringo. It is really good. The only commercial salsa I use.

I'm glad that worked for you. I'm in the 'if donuts are what you want, have the donut' group... satisfy the craving with one if you can and move on. I've tried subbing 'something better' far too many times to find it takes more of that because it's not the thing I wanted. It's weird. But I have done the 'sub fruit instead' and yeah that's better in the long run IF that's what I was wanting in the first place. I have to make myself WANT THAT. But that's me. I was totally amazed at myself last week with the storm & power outage and blah blah that I did not get donuts on my morning run around town. I'm rambling. I'm sorry. I've been up since 3am so my thoughts are boggled. It's like ... if I want a dessert, if my calories allow for it, I'll have it. I am not going to force myself to eat a meal when I'm not hungry (because, let's face it - no one eats a dessert out of hunger) just to justify the dessert. Shutting up now. You did great. Minding my own plate. #MMOP

Thanks for all of the positive feedback and support. I should let you know he brought mangoes for me and pears for my husband. The doughnuts were for my younger daughter(the one he is not dating.) He really is a thoughtful kid. I am very happy with my choice not to eat the doughnut and intend to continue to make the choice.

@bella I am not the person who can stop at one doughnut or whatever unhealthy food. When I let myself indulge it intensifies my cravings and I eat more and more junk. I find it infinitely easier to avoid it completely. Maybe someday I will be someone who can be satisfied with the occasional treat.

I just avoid the sweets mainly because I feel like a slug the next day. I eat sugar free jello daily. Good stuff. also no sugar fudgsicles.

I have to leave sweets alone, if I start to eat them I have no control..so better to avoid them and just stick to my berries and heavy cream for a treat.

I tried the low carb tortillas because I eat a lot of Mexican food. I don’t really care about the carbs per sae, it’s the fiber I want. I am not crazy about using things like Metamucil or fiber chews or other things that can end up as gum balls in your gut. I love prunes and work at getting fiber from real food but it is hard. I also don’t eat much salt so making my own chips (I don’t eat them often) works pretty good.
