erikahollister's Journal, 30 Jul 23

I broke a 72 hr fast yesterday morning, with a little food-mass weight bounce. I've had two mornings of hard work, one operating an orbital sander, sanding old doors for three hours, and today pruning and hauling brush for 4 hours. Both mornings, I was pretty spent by the end. It's hot. I just took my blood meter readings: BG 91 (a little high, as breakfast was 7.5 hours ago) and surprisingly ketones of 3.1 (so my autophagy from the fast continues). This may be due to the hours of hard work. Ribeye for second meal today :-)

I have felt rather sick since we picked up limbs in the yard following a storm.

That's a nice tiny rebound Erika! Good going! I'm guess the usual fluid inrush did not happen when you refeed carnivore. I upped my protein today, ate 127.5 g. I ate my lunch between 2:30 and 3:00 pm and I am still stuffed and don't even want to think about food. I still got in almost 10% carbs, so I am sure my rebound will be at least a pound. LOL it's aggravating, all the work I did last night getting rid of all those fluids and tomorrow it will be back...well perhaps not ALL of it but some. I think I am going to stop recording the rebound weight here in FS and just leave it in my fasting tracker, my weight graph looks like a tiny rollercoaster with all the little spikes and drops. As to the glucose being up, Andrew Huberman says that when you exercise your glucose goes up, and when you sauna your glucose goes up, he was talking about using one of those continuous glucose monitors and what he noticed about when his glucose would rise that had nothing to do with eating.

@Erika... Nice lil' bump on the refeed! My BG has not left the 90's since starting the BBB&E challenge, but my ketones have been really high with no exercise. It's strange.

I had a continuous glucose monitor for awhile and I did see that my glucose jumped when I exercised, just like eating a meal. Especially if you're fasting, your body has to produce it's own glucose (by burning fat).

@Morticia... I hope you feel better soon!

Any stressor can do it.

Well that could possibly explain my BG. Definitely alot of stressors going on around me. Although I have managed not to be affected these days at conscious level, it could definitely impacting me at a cellular level. 🤷‍♀️

However, it does not seem to be stopping your weight loss. That's a good thing.

How do you measure your Ketones?
31 Jul 23 by member: DongTam
@DongTam... They make ketone urine strips, a Ketone breath meter, and a Ketone blood meter. The Ketone blood meter (just like a blood glucose meter, but it measures ketones) is the most precise & accurate.

@Erika... That's what we're here for! 💜

DongTam - I use the finger prick blood meter. It's accurate and relatively inexpensive. I use the brand keto mojo. The strips are pricey, but this is how I provide myself health care, so I just spend the $. I'm turning 69 this month and have lost 75 lbs and have improved my health. Thanks to my own efforts and many wonderful YouTube docs. My own local healthcare providers have been nearly useless.

Your fasting duration is impressive ! Keep going 💪🏽

Thanks Matt, I keep it up because it is improving my health and well-being. I'm a brain injury survivor. I'm convinced that the fasting supports neural regeneration. It improves the headaches, and I believe that the autophagy is my best shot of avoiding dementia as I age.
