Fritzy 22's Journal, 01 Jan 23

Didn't expect such a big gain! It has been nearly a month since I last posted my weight and I haven't been logging food or even paying much attention to it. Now to get to work.

My anti inflammatory diet starts today. I didn't go grocery shopping for fruits and veggies so last night I was thinking about what I would do for breakfast. Usually I have coffee and some kind of toast. Can't have either now - no added sugar allowed. Or bread. Or butter. I could have black coffee but won't drink it. I will have a hard boiled egg, 2 tablespoons of chopped walnuts since I bought extra for a cake I made. I also have 2 Granny Smith apples left that I didn't need for the apple/walnut cake. So I'll have part of an apple. They are huge and really sour.
I have a bag of spinach I bought last week that I haven't opened yet and will make a salad with that. I am going to cook some chicken breast cubes I thawed out. Was going to cook with barbecue sauce and put in the salad. But the barbecue sauce has added sugar and I was going to use it anyway, just a couple tablespoons. But didn't want the added sugar on day 1. So thought about cooking it in the wok with soy sauce. I think soy sauce is inflammatory so I'll use tamari. I looked up recipes for barbecue sauce but they all have brown sugar.

Didn't stay up til midnight last night - I can't stay up until 9! But I woke just after midnight because of all the noise in the neighborhood.

Got nearly 5 inches of rain since Thursday morning. More than I've ever received in the 11 years I've lived here. Lots of puddles but no flooding. A friend of mine in Placerville got nearly 9 inches of rain and her yard was flooded and the street to her house goes over a creek and was washed away. She currently have no way to leave the house. So I feel really lucky where I live. I did go check the pond on top of the bank outside since her pond overflowed. Mine was just started to overflow so I used a bucket to remove some water. The bank is very rocky so I don't think I would get a mudslide. Funny after so many years of drought we go to flooding in many areas. Today is supposed to be nice but the rain starts up again by Wednesday and we may have another storm by the weekend.

Happy New Year!🎉 You GOT this! You have a good plan and food to get you started!👍 We went from -8 to 63 in the same week. Snow is gone with some rain but I am sure the snow will return soon. Hope not too soon. Need to take my older yorkie to the vet. He doesn’t want to eat unless I make something special. I will call in the morning. Hope Bobby and the kitties are doing well! Enjoy your day!:)

Instead of BBQ sauce, try using the tamari and squeezing an orange over the chicken. You can make sauces naturally sweet by using fresh mango, pineapple, oranges — just chop up the fruit and use them as a salsa. No canned or jarred fruit though, as they have ZERO nutrients. Fresh or frozen only. If you add diced red bell peppers and onion with the fruit, you’ll have a sweet & sour flavor.

Sodium leads to inflammation. Read the label on the tamari sauce they usually have about 1000 mg in a tbsp. On an anti inflammatory diet that is about as much as you should have in one day.

Thanks Navywife - we are having much warmer nights. It would get down to the low 30's and now our highs and lows during the day don't vary much about 48-54. The thermostat would show 48-50 when I got up during the colder days and now it's 54-60 in the morning. I don't think I could deal with snow. Hope your dog is okay. I may take Bobby to the vet. He has recovered from the diarrhea but I want to ask about his front leg quivering or shaking. It always has done that and I just thought he was excited or something, but I want to be sure. The kitties are fine and Tony is a little brat. Following me everywhere, making noise with the window blinds to try to wake me up. Doesn't try to escape when it is raining and windy outside though.

Thanks Bananas. I will try squeezing juice from an orange I have in the refrigerator. I like to put pineapple juice and even pineapple chunks in the wok when I stir fry. I do keep cans of it in the pantry in case I need it but don't have any. I have some fresh chunks left from over a week ago when I went to the grocery store. Don't think it's good any more. I looked up the sunflower seeds I started snacking on after you recommended them. It turns out they are very good on an anti inflammatory diet!

Thanks Nikina - Happy New Year to you too! I feel lucky as far as where I live now that I am watching the local news from Sacramento (about an hour or so away) and see all the flooded streets and people being rescued from cars. It's been a long time since there have been floods like that. I'm going to go for a walk today and see how the creek is flowing here.

Thanks Honeebuns - I noticed the tamari has as much sodium as soy sauce. I will only use a tablespoon which is 980 mg. I can only do so much on day one. I don't have high blood pressure and don't add much salt when I cook. I think there is a low sodium version.

Greetings - you could try sugar free BBQ sauce in the future. I use it sometimes and it is pretty good.

I’m glad you are enjoying warmer temps. I am used to the snow but never liked it and the older I get I don’t like the cold. So, I stay in unless I have to go out. My Minnesota husband loves the snow! I know I would not like their weather! Rather at least be here in the East! Glad your fur babies are doing good. Not sure about Bobby’s leg. That Tony!:) lol

Happy New Year. I guess the rain is nice but rain after drought can be problematic. Hope it all goes well. Your diet sounds very restrictive. Sometimes that can be a good thing. It is a thing that works for me

Thanks HCB - I have seen other people mention sugar free BBQ sauce. I'm supposed to avoid processed foods, so not sure what they add instead of sugar to make it sweet but I can look next time I'm grocery shopping.

Thanks Navywife - I like cold weather better than hot weather, but cold for where I live is cold enough! Rarely gets before 30 even at night.

Ahhh...I wonder if you could make a homemade sauce?

Thanks Liv - the diet is restrictive, suppose to give up processed foods. The first time I did it I only lasted for 2 months and it was too much. So I am not going to go all in, because I have canned food I want to use. And even today, day 1, I am going to have a can of tomato soup because I am not getting full on what I have. I could drink coffee if I didn't add half and half and sugar. I may allow myself one day of week of coffee that way. We'll see the first couple days go. Glad you can work well with a restrictive diet. I just need to stick to it to get and stay healthy!

UPDATE - I saw I entered we had 3 inches of rain, it was actually 5 inches! Big difference. My old rain gauge didn't even go up to 5 inches.

HCB - I looked at recipes for sauce but they all had brown sugar and most had ketchup. I'm not supposed to have added sugar. But I had honey last time I did this since I was mostly looking at processed foods and I figured the local honey I bought from the guy who had a stand on the side of the road wasn't really all that processed. But ketchup is listed as a food to avoid. But I'll try what Just Bananas suggesed. And I remember my dad made barbecue sauce with worchestshire sauce, chopped onions and ketchup. I may try something similar, maybe with tomato paste or something. I don't use it all that much.

Happy new year! I don't follow such a strict diet but I did switch using no sugar/salt added ketchup and other available products. I can stick to that without getting FOMO.😄 I'd have taken the apples and nuts and made baked apples using Swerve brown sugar replacement. I hope you're inflammation and pain free very soon. ❣️

Apples (and other pieces of fruit) don't need more sugar or fake sugar dumped on them. They're sweet and delicious all by themselves. It's a matter of retraining our brains and tastebuds to not need super-jacked up sweets. Berries don't need whipped cream, bananas don't need to be baked into bread, peaches don't need to be turned into jam. Just buy food ripe, or let it finish ripening at home before eating. Otherwise it's the equivalent of shaking salt onto a piece of ham.
