Fritzy 22's Journal, 30 Dec 22

I keep reading information on the anti inflammatory diet. I had some information saved from 2017 or 2018, whenever I first tried it. Things I am not supposed to have at all include added sugar to anything (or honey or agave). No butter or vegetable oils. No shellfish. I don't eat much fish but I do like shrimp. I hardly ever eat it because it has tons of cholesterol in it. I do remember eating it last time, though. Mayonaisse is also not good to have. I rarely use it except when making a tuna sandwich or egg salad. I found a recipe using avocado oil but think it would be easier for me to just smash up some avocado and mix with tuna. I remember doing that before and adding chopped almonds. Red meat should be avoided. I have quite a bit of frozen hamburger. I can't afford to not get rid of food I already have so I will use up what I have, but in small portions. Nightshades may need to be avoided - certain vegetables like tomatoes, white potatoes, and peppers. But I don't know if I really believe that.

Excited about the rain we are getting. There may be areas of flooding. I am at the highest part of my street so don't think I'll have problems except there are already some really big puddles. The local news station said the foothills, especially Grass Valley and Nevada City may get 6-8 inches of rain. I live about 30-40 minutes away but still considered the lower foothills. My new rain gauge currently shows 2 inches from the rain that started yesterday. I may have to empty it if we get to 5 inches and then see if it refills. Everyone gets so excited when it rains after so many dry years. But I also remember the really bad flooding in the 90's when I lived in the Sacramento area - people having to be rescued off their roofs. Hope we don't get that much rain. It's okay to have a storm and then several days to dry out before it rains again but it looks like we may have rain most days for the next 7-10 days.

Rain here tomorrow. Hope yours won’t be too much. I never could decide about nightshades either but I keep them moderate and not worry about it. I do use avocado oil!:)

Thanks Navywife. Do you have inflammation too? I am going to have to buy avocado oil. I've read you a buy avocado mayonaisse, but I don't really use mayo all that much.if

I do have inflammation so I try to be careful with trigger foods! It makes a huge difference!:)

Avocado oil has no taste. I dislike mayonnaise, so I've done the trick of smearing avocado on sandwiches for decades. Now that I've gone WFPB, it's a no-brainer as it's obviously not processed. Regarding the Nightshades: I agree that it sounds like BS to avoid those nutritious vegetables. Highly processed food (chips, baked goods, icecream, fast food) and added sugars cause inflammation and should be the first to be trashed, not tomatoes!

WE normally get a lot of rain here. I do believe the part about nightshades.

Thanks Navy - the inflammation shows in blood tests. Otherwise I wouldn't know about it. So I don't know if any foods trigger it. I do have lots of joint and other aches and pains. I assume it is mostly due to obesity. Once I reach a healthier weigh I may be able to figure out if anything triggers inflammation or pain.

Thanks Bananas. I didn't know anything about avocado oil until I looked up healthy recipes for mayonaisse. I've read that for an anti inflammatory diet avocado and olive oil are the best oils to use and both are good for cooking. I probably won't try it since I learned, like you that I can just smash and spread avocado on toast (can't have anymore, anyway) and mixed with tuna, and possibly for egg salad. The top foods to avoid on the new diet are sodas, chips, ice cream and everything you said. Of course I can't imagine any doctor telling you these items are okay in a healthy diet when trying to lose weight

Thanks Morticia - I don't remember what a normal winter, which is our rainy season, is like after so many years of drought. I am enjoying the rain and see many puddles outside. Hopefully there won't be any bad flooding. I've been reading about nightshades and they have some kind of natural pesticide in them that some people feel causes inflammation and joint pain. I doubt I would eat enough quantities of them to be worried but I will limit them. No more baked potatoes but I will put potatoes in a stew or soup. I like the sweet red peppers in salads or just to eat raw, but it takes me 4 or 5 days to eat the whole pepper. Sometimes I put grape tomatoes in salads but most of my tomato consumption is in chili or home made soup. Are you getting rain where you live?
