Under 1000 yesterday without even trying. It just sort of worked out that way, and that makes me very happy.

Something stinks in the fridge. I cleaned it out. Threw away everything suspicious. It still smells. I literally picked up every bottle and jar and smelled it - nothing smells like the smell I'm smelling. There is a sealed package of hot dogs that isn't leaking and doesn't smell. There is a package of Velveeta Slices. Sealed. Doesn't smell. There is a roll of Pop N Fresh Dough. Unopened, unexpired. I mean, what could it be coming from? Nothing wet, nothing gooey. Nothing spoiled. Nothing in foil or a tub or plate.

Then I smelled the box of baking soda - a ha! That's it! The baking soda absorbed something smelly, and now it's re-stinking up the whole rest of the fridge. So I tossed it. But a day later, the fridge still smells. What the hell is going on?

I even checked the freezer to ensure that nothing stinky is coming from there. It's nearly empty, too, and nothing bad in there, either.

Do I literally need to remove every bottle of ketchup and mustard to get to the bottom of this? I feel like posting a photo so you guys can see how nearly empty it already is. This is driving me crazy!

Maybe you need to get like a sanitizing spray and spray her down?? I hate that smell, I know exactly what you're talking about!

Any chance that there's something UNDER your fridge? Anything suspicious under the crisper drawers? Occasionally too I've found that it can take that extra day or two for the smell to totally be gone. I know you've said it's been a day - but maybe one more day might take care of the issue? My sympathies - I hate when this happens!

congrats on the loss, now regarding the smell in fridge, sometimes wiping it down with a sudsy concoction of dish soap and baking soda helps to eliminate odors from a fridge, then there is another product I buy from the dollar store it is called Carbona Clean It...microwave and refrigerator wipes, they make your fridge and micro smell fresh...now I can't remember what dollar store I purchased them from as there are so many ie: general dollar etc.

vinegar is a natrual odor remover. i keep a bottle half vinegar half water to wipe things down with. it works really well.

Congrats on the calorie count! As for the odor issue, I wonder if the plastic of the fridge seals could've absorbed some of the smells that the open baking soda had. If so I think the suggestions already made to wash the inside of the unit with a mild soap + water, baking soda or vinegar solutions would help to clean and deodorize your appliance.

In addition to the other comments, I would put in a new baking soda container in both your fridge and freezer, if you haven't already. It might just be the combination of food odors that smells kinda funky, even though nothing in particular smells out of the ordinary. I use those fridge/freezer ones. And definitely take everything out and wipe it down with some sort of cleaner. I hope it improves.

I sometimes absorb something smelly. So far I haven't been thrown out. Good job. *Eyes you with suspicion due to previous conversation.*

My first thought was Draglist's and Puhpine's comment. :) Second under the fridge, behind the fridge, and top of the fridge since you had already checked everything inside the fridge. Good Luck!

I would check the drip tray under the fridge. My daughter had the same problem.

At a resort I worked at a package of meat fell behind the bottom drawers in a condo fridge and no one noticed until it was way too late. Hate to finish the story this way, but housekeeping never did get the smell out. Hope it's not too late for you!

Everyone has suggested my thoughts already, big thing might be the drip tray. Glad the 1000 makes you happy. Suggestion even it out over the week.

Hey, you guys -- I'm not the only one who lives in this house nor who eats out of this fridge. I DO allow my husband to keep food in there for himself. LOL. All the crap I read I listed earlier is stuff for him, not me, God help me. Although I did have one slice of Velveeta on a salad today, but I forgive myself that 45 calorie indulgence. I hardly tasted it mixed in with everything else on my little fake chef salad I made myself today. Anyway, I have a feeling something slipped, rotted and solidified into a clear varnished goo that is now invisible and putrid. Vinegar and two hours of cleaning, here I come. Ugh!

P.S. Thanks for all the ideas and suggestions from everyone! There is nothing hiding because everything is clear glass and plastic, so thank God for that, and no dead critters, either - whew!

Not fun!! Good luck.

I would still clean under the crisper drawers. I had some harmless looking clear stuff under mine and it stunk to high heaven. Pull every part of the fridge out and wash it all around. Then the new box of baking soda. The last time I had a problem it ended up being some shrimp that I didn't realize hubby had in the fridge.

Velveeta? Wouldn't you rather have some cheese?

NM, it's for my hubby 95% of the time. I do not eat 100% of everything in the fridge! I do have a husband who also eats and who doesn't diet!
