Fritzy 22's Journal, 14 Jun 20

Finally decided to just post my weight. I've gained just over a pound a week since the stay at home order started. It's enough now. I am not stressing about it. I'm at home. I only go to the grocery store every 10 days or so, sometimes waiting as long as 3 weeks. So I am eating food from the pantry or freezer. Not the way I should eat. I will set a goal now to try to lose a pound a week. I have figured out if I avoid buying the bad food that I tend to over eat that I don't gain. So when I do go to the grocery store I'll TRY not to buy chips, ice cream, etc. What I've found is when I buy the bad stuff I eat it all within 2 or 3 days and then the rest of the time I just eat the other food. Easy to say, but difficult to stick to.
My favorite quarantine meal has been 1/2 sandwich (grilled cheese or tuna or peanut butter and jelly), a cup of tomato soup and 1/2 cup or so of applesauce. Reminds me of the lunches my mom made for me when I was 9 or 10.

No stress needed. You know what to do and we are here to help...I know I need all the help out there. I’m really sick of weighing and measuring and counting and adding and and AND! Ugh. What makes me mad is that if I don’t do it, will I gain back everything like everyone else? Not ever wanting that so count I must and weigh and measure 🙄🙄🙄🙄 It is what works. I don’t think I’m near being able to just eat and live. Will I ever????? Scares me. Like who wants to be in fs for the rest of their life???? Sorry I’m going on and on Fritzy. Just letting you know you’re not alone on this road. 👍🏻❤️

Once I started tracking the nutrients in the food I was eating and comparing it to the amount of each nutrient I should be having, it was incredibly eye opening. I realized I was poisoning myself. I had to eliminate from my menu almost everything I enjoyed eating. The recipes I didn't eliminate had to be revamped to make them healthy. I didn't bring home anything like ice cream, because not only would they have been counteractive to losing weight, it was also one of my goals to lower my A1C. In the beginning, I told myself that doing without my favorites was only temporary. As the results of my diet were better and better, I thought of my old favorites less and less, and I found new favorites that were healthy. I hope you're able to find your way to overcome the difficulties you're having.

Thanks DP. I will try to post my weight every Sunday and am hoping a pound of week won't be too difficult. Thanks JC and Wifey, appreciate the support and understanding. Thanks LulisB and Katsolo - I am going to try to get to the grocery store more often so I can buy fresh fruit and vegetables and I have a list made already. It's been a long time since I've stir fried vegetables and it's on the menu for one day next week. Might add some chicken too. Lonnie - if I can resist buying ice cream and other snacks I do okay. But it's been tough just eating what's in the pantry - all processed food. Although a bag of potatoes last forever! Made many baked potatoes since March. Thanks Liv - I noticed 2 of my cats are looking fat now. Since Callie is sick with lymphoma I feed her extra, whenever she wants to eat. She is always starving after getting a steroid injection. So when the other cats hear a new can of food being opened they come running for their share. So we are all getting fat. Even Callie managed to gain about 1/2 pound in 3 weeks. I am spending too much money on food for the birds. They don't eat that much but the squirrels know where the feeders are. For the past 3 or 4 years I've had 2 squirrels as daily visitors. They must have had babies because I counted 6 squirrels on or around the deck yesterday! No wonder the 50 pound bag of sunflower chips only lasted 3 weeks this last time. Usually I need a new bag every 2 months or so. But I really enjoy all the wildlife.

I am with you. I lost 12 lbs before Covid hit and gained it all back. So I am back on track for 1 pound a week and lost 8 so far.

Possibly some or most of the weight gain is from less activity. Some of it may be from increased calories. I gained some too. Back to the diet and exercise plan this week.

Good to hear from you Fritzy, we are all struggling during this never-ending pandemic. Although I've managed to lose the weight I gained at the beginning of this isolation, I can't seem to make any more progress. Thank goodness we have the birds and squirrels to entertain and distract us a little. One pound a week sounds like a good plan; you know we're all here on this journey with you. 💛

Thanks Melissa! I haven't really minded staying home although once in awhile I get really bored. I know I just need to start eating some vegetables and fruit. There is a farmer's market in my town on Thursdays, I need to try to remember and go see what they have. Diana, I've been loving the grilled cheese sandwiches and 1/2 is plenty. I hadn't bought tomato soup for over 40 years and now I have about 6 cans in the pantry. Tweeters - I'm hoping 1 pound a week won't be too difficult. Congratulations on taking off 8 of the 12 pounds! Johnkdevinecpa - I know my activity level is much lower than before (and it never was all that much). I feel I have an excuse to do absolutely nothing all day if I want. DO N OK - thanks for the support! How great you were able to lose the 34 pounds you gained. Very motivating. Shirfleur - you seem to be doing better than me during the pandemic. I just haven't been paying attention to my diet at all, just eating whatever I have in the house. No planning. But that needs to change and I'm going to try.
