59Carol's Journal, 22 Feb 20

This is an exciting weight loss for me! Generally I am pleased with a 1 to 1.5 pound loss. This one is 2.4 pound loss. Very exciting in and of itself.

The difference today is that I was in Edmonton for 3 days where I ate a lot. I had the idea I would eat in moderation. I didn't. Especially on one particular night. I came home to a 2.4 pound gain. Then the whole week I tried to compensate for the higher calorie days which were a total of 4 days over the window, 1 day in the window and 3 days under the window.

When the dust cleared I averaged 13 calories per day over the window. All things considered not too bad. Under these circumstances I did not expect such a substantial weight loss. Including the gain I lost nearly 5 pounds.

I truly am not sure why I was as successful as I was. I weigh myself daily and record weekly. I had a quick loss when I first went back to normal eating and then steadily lost from there so it was not an anomaly this morning. I am not going to look this particular gift horse in the mouth... I am just going to be thrilled!

Tonight my family and I are going to a local theatre production of "A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder". It is a comedy with one of the leads being played by a friend. Beforehand we are going to our local sushi restaurant so it will be a nice night out.

The renos are done! I have included 4 pictures to give you an idea. Basically my entire main floor was renoed. The laundry room was brought upstairs. The picture shows some of the things my husband built that were re-purposed in the laundry area. The flooring is all new.

Wow good for you on Losing more weight. First of all I’m happy for you that your Reno is complete. I love the leather couch. I especially love the painting over it. I’m a bird watcher, so that painting is definitely up my alley. The frame around it is very unique. And the floors are stunning.

Told you week before last's gain was probably water. The scale just caught up with what was actually happening but was hidden by water. Hanging tough even when the scale is a brat is the secret. :) And yay!! Renos are done! Lookin' good! :)

Thank you to all of you. I am well pleased with the renos. I feel good walking around my home. Najwa Kale- that picture above my couch is a stained glass window. On the other side of it is my bedroom so I can watch the rising sun shine through it in the morning.

Oh yes the stained glass window is so awesome. I bet you will enjoy the morning sun so much more now.

My husband and I bought the stained glass window almost 20 years ago. It was his idea to install it between the living room and the bedroom. He really enjoyed the sun coming in through the window while lying in bed in the morning. It gave our home some 'character'. So much of my renos were a balance between the things that he initiated and the upgrades I wished to make. For example, it was his idea to put the poplar wood ceilings in the kitchen and living room. I added poplar ceilings in the hallway and study during this reno. In the end I feel that all of the renos I did honoured the 'style' that Dave and I developed as a couple over the 42 years we were married. Dave was very handy with many construction skills so he did all of his own work. The two people I hired were young men who knew him well and had worked on a number of projects with him. They tried very hard to honour him in the work they did. It made the process that much more meaningful.

That is wonderful. You get to feel your husband's spirit in the reno, but also have what works for you in the next chapter. I like your colors too!

The renovation is lovely, and it touches my heart. I would love to wake up in the morning to the Sun shining through that stained glass window. I like the utility room moved upstairs; when we built our house, I put the utility room back near the bedrooms instead of near the kitchen. People thought I was weird, but it made sense to me. Enjoy your beautifully redone home. Congrats on a great weight loss.
