ImLaura's Journal, 27 Dec 18

I can't seem to stay on Keto for more than a couple months, even though I know it works so well for me. I love the food, lose the weight, maintain, and then start slowly adding the tortilla chips and jelly beans and other favorites back in until I'm back to being a carb queen, and my weight goes right back up again. At least I have the sense to get back on it before I put too much back on. So.... here I am again. 11 pounds to shed this time, then going to try to find some kind of a more do-able maintenance plan. Any of you allow a full blown cheat day every week or two? Does that wreck ketosis? Maybe if I knew I could give in to my cravings on certain days, I could stick with it more. I just can't imagine a life with NO tortilla chips, EVER!...that's not a life worth living IMHO. LOL!!

Every time I have tortilla chips I gain 2 pounds the next day. So I have only had them like 12 times this year. I just take the 'hit'.

Same! I really identify with your post! Especially chips and jelly beans 😎 Thank you for being here!

I have had 4 cheat days all year - 2 of them this holiday week. That doesn’t mean I don’t have tortilla chips any other time. If we eat Mexican, I’ll limit myself to 5 - 10 chips and salsa. Or maybe a bite or 2 of rice or beans. My goal is to get out while staying below 30 - 40 net carbs for the day. My body handles it and I’m still in Ketosis in the morning. It’s more of a dimmer switch approach than flipping the switch off and on. Sweets generally are not an issue for me. But that’s ME. Find what works for YOU and just go with it. You can do it! 🙂

You can indeed have your favorites and get to your goal, keto is not required, a calorie deficit is. If keto is the only way you can achieve a deficit, then I guess it is required for you.

I think that once you become fat adapted. That may take about 7 weeks a meal of non keto food will make no difference what so ever. I went off this Christmas for about a day and I was in ketosis after 12 hours. So if you have a few non keto favourites that is what I would try. You just have to do keto a bit first and then be able to go back after your meal.

And good luck.

good to hear Liv, thanks! And I like the dimmer switch analogy, Jheeden. Once I get hard into ketosis I will use that idea. Thanks all!

Have you tried a simple portion control diet, kinda like have some chips but not the entire basket?

portion control can work for some people. You may do calorie count and maybe slowly up your carb macro until it evens out on the scale - then immediately drop your carbs 5-10 grams and see if that is your weight loss sweet spot

Go back to Google and learn a little bit about how Keto works. Unless you are going to live the rest of your life on a Keto diet (and there are people who have made that commitment) you may have to make peace with the concept of better food choices, calories and portion control.

A WoE needs to be a lifelong commitment or the weight loss will be as temporary as your commitment. Maybe try flexible dieting if you want daily tortilla chips. I have daily treats but it isn't for everyone. It requires as much control for some as restrictive diets do. You have to have enough willpower to stop eating after a certain amount. Salty crunchy tortilla chips are very easy to overeat, especially with dip, lol!

I have read where going off of Keto for a day and then back on is healthy for you and easier to maintain. Can try it and see if it works.

I love how everyone has chimed in ❤️💜🧡💛💚💙 that’s why I love it here. Laura, if keto is what makes you happy, do it again and schedule yourself breaks. If you wanna do something else entirely, do that. So much fun, so many different people who want to share their life experience with you ❤️🧡💛💙💜

My last piece of advice for 2018...maybe. I think there are some really good thoughts above but I believe an easy way to remedy your desire for a WoE and one you can stick to is this: You probably place the chip in the dip, dip on top of chip, and place in pie hole. For 2019, take the chip, get the dip on it, and invert the chip....boom! Yeah, the dip has a 50/50 shot of dropping off the chip and you lose weight! I have a book coming out on this tip and 1500 other ways to lose and keep weight off. You're welcome btw.....hehehehe and yes, going on k-e-t-o and off every 12 hours is TOTALLY the way to do this correctly. Or maybe 6 on 6 off with a 2 day fast, or meh, just eat less and find food as fuel and problem magically solved.

You sound like me, on and off of Keto!! My biggest weakness (on a consistent basis) is nachos, when are they going to make a carb free tortilla chip??? ha ha! When I struggle with sticking to Keto, I incorporate a lot of intermittent fasting and that really helps...a lot!! Good luck to you :-)

Sounds like the story of my life. I see I am not the only one going through this problem. Like me I will never give up.
