Steven Lloyd's Journal, 28 Mar 16

From my last post we were just heading out on a family ski vacation, with my plan to ski a bit, very slowly and carefully...apparently I forgot to tell my body and back that part. The body and back both felt that "they" were up to a faster pace, the first day I skied about 70% throttle and the second day (a powder day), it was almost back to normal, no jumping or moguls but really no issues at all, very happy and surprised! The back was a little sore at the end of the day, but iced it as I've usually been doing and no more concern than my regular physio workouts.

Now the suprising news (for me), a couple of days ago hit an all time season's best UPHILL cross country ski performance, 3 miles distance - ALL UPHILL @ an average slope of 11.2 deg, 3080 vertical feet climbed in 52:30 (3.43 mph avg.), my best time previously over this distance and climb was 53:15 which I set on November 16, 2015. My usual fast pace is +/- 56:15 for that distance and vertical, and even at that pace I'm working my buns off (steady 125 to 155 bpm). Today's elliptical wattage was back to hi normal too.

Very pleased as I was mentally prepared for a lot longer rehab on my back before I saw things coming back to normal. Five weeks ago it felt like it could be a year or more, now I'm thinking the six to twelve weeks estimated recovery will be closer to the six weeks than the twelve. I am very thankful...and thank you all for your thoughts and prayers!!

Thanks Bill and Jim! Everything appears to be well on its way to full recovery, but I still really don't know how that PB happened...everything just felt good and easy, didn't even see it coming until I hit the 2/3rds mark.

Pretty happy right now John and Misty, wasn't expecting things to be anywhere near close to where they are now, very stoked!! My daughter (Mom to be) is doing well too, she is s close to 30 wks now so even if she does go into labour again (emergency ward 6 wks ago) the danger to baby is much reduced.

Great job, Steven! I'm glad for you. I know how the worry gets, as I'm worried about my knee. I keep on hoping I can run again, but not sure.

Thanks Misty! Everyone is feeling better as the weeks tick off for her and baby. Thank you Warren, I hope your knee improves. If it's any encouragement my right knee got toasted in 1997, G2 brace since 1997 for sports, no cartilage, only the inner meniscus left, it's actually better now than a few years ago....go figure??
