Hurt my hip yesterday and can’t do my walking today. I’ve made a new affirmation that says, “My knees are restored to full usage, enabling me to walk 6 miles a day; climb and descend stairs confidently; squat, kneel and get up off the floor with ease; and even run.” When you make an affirmation, you phrase it as if the goal has already been achieved.” Well, I decided (after about 10 years of not doing it a single time) to RUN. I’ve tried in the past, but the best I could do was only a fast walk. Well, yesterday, I actually RAN for about 20 feet. I guess I should have waited until I wasn’t still lugging an excess 50-lbs of weight! Got a catch in my hip and was only able to finish walking a little over 4 miles yesterday. Hurts to bad today to walk even a mile. Praying it resolves quickly!

Be kind to yourself until your hip feels better. Maybe some stretches.

Well, it’s 2pm and I pushed through to get in 3 miles so far. It’s not hurting quite as much as when I started this morning. I’m only walking about 1/4 mile at a time. Doubt I’ll get in all six, but some progress is better than none.

My doctor doesn't recommend running for me. I enjoy walking a lot though.

please, please, please.... check in with your pt provider and let them know about the hip hitch after first time running. With a history of joint replacement and not having done that (running) in a long while, you want to make sure you aren't unintentionally injuring yourself. I've spent the last year+ working to regain the ability to walk upright, without a compensated gait due to muscle spasms. It started out as a hitch in my step that I didn't think anything of.... and it eventually landed me in constant, debilitating pain. There are SO many muscles involved in mobility that we don't even consider!! When one muscle isn't strong enough to do what we ask - the others compensate which weakens them all. PT can help you with muscle dysfunction and building strength.
