jmb3450's Journal, 19 Nov 15

I've gotten into a pretty good groove with my routine, unless I derail myself between now and the weekend I appear to be on track for another loss / new low weight but you know what they say about counting your chickens before they hatch. I seem to have found the right range of calories and macros that work and I'm planning my food out early in the day....entering stuff into my food journal in advance and pretty much sticking to it. Even getting some little treats in, as long as they stay "little" it works.

As for my back/sciatic nerve situation I believe I'll need to see the doc unfortunately. The right side has gotten better but still some issues, and now there's some issues with my left side as well. I can feel the aching and tightness in my lower back that I had before, after I fell off my roof and broke my L5 vertebra. I guess I'll start with the orthopedist I saw in the past. For now I've stopped any running, just walking, exercise bike, and strength training.

I fell off the roof too. I didn't break anything but have allot of problems with my back. As a former licensed massage therapist, I would highly recomend massage therapy for the peroformis muscle , glutes, and the back of your legs. It will release a good bit of that tightness. I myself stay away from lower back massage but do indulge in the massage I've describe when I can afford it.

Traccie, the leg/hip thing is really weird. Has changed the way it feels or what it affects at least 3 times since it flared up which is part of why I'm thinking it has to be the nerve....had moved around from the center of my hip to my lower calf and ankle, now it' more in my hip/abdomen. Strange.

Yes, it sounds very much like nerve pain. I hate that for you and I'm sorry you have to deal with it. In the case of "most" sciatica, the sciatica nerve runs under the periformis muscle. If that muscle is tight, or spasming, or inflamed, it will press on the nerve. It doesn't take much once you've already injured that nerve. And in a situation like yours, you could feel that pain simply from anything flaring up in your lower back, lumber region and not from that muscle at all. It's hard to say what it could be. You can also google periformis stretches or how to stretch the periformis muscle. https://www.google.com/search?q=how+to+stretch+the+piriformis+muscle+for+sciatica&oq=how+to+stretch+the+perifromis&aqs=chrome.2.69i57j0l3.14697j0j4&client=tablet-android-alco&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8 If you paste that link in your browser you may find somethings that help in cases when that muscle is tight. It will at least keep that part of a flair up at bay.
