Fritzy 22's Journal, 07 Feb 24

I will go over 100 grams of carbs today, pretty sure. The total for oatmeal cooked with milk and topped with a sliced banana and chopped walnuts is very filling and seems perfect for another rainy day, but it has about 65 carb grams. I may also make a cup of hot chocolate. Not sure that I'll eat much more than the oatmeal. I had 1 or 2 tablespoons of applesauce to help me swallow a pill. I have the hardest time with them.

Hoping to take it easy 2 or 3 days to give my knee another rest. I may have been doing too much and it's hurting more. I talked yesterday to my youngest sister who lives in Phoenix about maybe needing knee surgery. She said could come out to help me for a few days if I need her. Not a few weeks but several days is possible. That would be a big help. Still hope to avoid surgery, but that might not be possible.

I put a little saucer of half and half out last night on the little rug for porch kitty. I know the fox and the skunk wouldn't drink it. I checked at 2am and it was still there. But just after 4am it was gone. Yes, I had a lousy night sleeping thanks to my 22 pound cat! Didn't see Porch Kitty and there is a big pretty tabby tom cat that comes by once in awhile.

I used to be a lot happier with 150gms of net carbs a day and even 125gms of net carbs later. 100gms has caused me to have to make better choices with my carb intake - High fiber foods with maximum nutrition like low glycemic veggies and fruits. Bless your sister. Great offer. I hope Porch Kitty got the milk.

Thanks Morticia! I decided to have just warm milk instead of hot chocolate because there are more than 25 carb grams in the cocoa mix. I'm still at 110 carb grams because of 2 cups of warm milk. Can't have hot chocolate on oatmeal day. It was nice of my sister to offer to help, if needed. I doubt it was porch kitty who got the h&h. I had left it out 2 times before last night and someone drank it. Maybe, if porch kitty is a girl, she's had kittens somewhere

Fritzy i hope you take your sis up on her offer. A couple of days is probably all you will really need for additional help (maybe 3 days) except for getting to pt of course. Uber? I am on a dedicated 90 day oatmeal experiment for myself so i am noticing my carbs are now substantially higher. I am waiting till Sunday to weigh myself so i may get a nasty surprise which may derail my oatmeal experiment. The conscious lowering of carbs and increasing protein lowered my homocysteine back to a healthy number of the past 18 months which translates into a lower risk of developing Alzheimer’s. From the high (think red at a stop light) number to a healthy number (think green for go😂). So we sure are a balancing act nutritionally as we age aren’t we. Really hope porch kitty shows up again. Ice ice ice your knee. Should help.

Hope your knee situation works out well

Thanks YOH! I may start cutting the oatmeal serving in half because of the carbs. The banana has almost the same amount of carbs. I may try blackberries or raspberries next time. I doubt porch kitty will show up again. In over 3 days she's never missed more than a day or two. I'm hoping someone has turned her into an inside kitty. I really hope I don't need surgery. I've read that a meniscus tear can heal. I am going to get a cane or walking stick to have just in case I wake up again without being to put weight on my knee. I think I may have done more damage during the 2 weeks of limping. But I see my regular doctor next week and will see what he thinks and also see if there is someone he can refer me to for a 2nd opinion. Of course an orthopedic surgeon is going to talk about surgery.

FRITZY keep in mind that the healthy knee is now going to bear more of the load as you baby the injured knee which can cause issues as well. Talk to your doc about this. I know i keep pushing knee replacement it’s just that i see the benefits constantly. My trainer is in the physical therapy office i went to for a year of pt and i see knee replacements in all ages all the time. Always better than the pain and the mobility will be a wonder. I use 1/2 banana in my oatmeal and 1/2 scoop of vanilla protein powder also i think my carbs have been hitting over 150 grams a day. I like blueberries tho so you gave me an idea with the berries. So sorry about porch kitty. Our neighbor had two sibling kitties (boy and girl) and they were indoor/outdoor. The girl used to come over all the time when i was in between dogs (no pets for about a year or so) and i would let her come in and give her tuna fish and bought her some toys to play with. The boy was fearful so i would feed him outside. I knew they were my neighbors cats and they had a home. One day my neighbor calls asking if i had seen the girl kitty. I hadn’t but by then we had dogs so she didnt come over much anymore and lo and behold a neighbor we dont know at the end of the street had catnapped her. Her owner went and retrieved her and a few months later same neighbor catnapped her again. As in wont let her outside. She is a sweet kitty but her brother misses her. My neighbor who actually owns her gave up as she wasn’t going to force her cats to stay inside and she got herself a kitten and the neighbor down the street now has girl kitty. The loser in this deal is the brother. They used to roam the neighborhood together. So hoping your porch kitty had an ending like that.

It will eventually come down to quality of life Fritzy. Is this where you want to be going forward? 1 day ok the do a bit extra and ending up resting for 2-4 days and not doing the things that fulfill your life. Talk with your primary and if you decide get that second opinion. Remember the older we get the harder and longer the healing process will be. You are the only one that can make this decision❤️

Thanks Redrose - I don't think that surgery should be the first and only option given to me. I can walk without limping. The pain I have now is minimal compared when the problem first happened. I've read the a meniscus tear can sometimes with surgery not being necessary. Maybe physical therapy will help. I just someone to explain my options to me. My primary care doctor is usually good about that. I'm not ready to rush into anything when prior to last October I never had any knee problems

YOH, it's too bad the neighbor that adopted the girl kitty didn't also adopt the brother. Inside cats usually live longer than outside cats. I'm hoping porch kitty has been adopted.

I do too I love animals. I used to always rescue kitties before our last kitty cat that is. we had Hermes and adored him for eight long years we gave him all his shots and had him neutered did all the right things of course. But we lost him to feline leukemia I asked the vet how that could happen since we had got in his shots early in his kittenhood. The the vet explained that apparently if they contract certain diseases prior to the vaccination apparently they can carry it with them for their lives until whatever causes it to appear and it doesn't matter that they've been vaccinated it just happens. unfortunately the vet wasn't able to help him in any way other than to help him pass on in the more peaceful manner. now as a result I do not take up strays not because I don't have love for strays and not that I will not feed strays of course but I just can't take that kind of loss. I will happily feed animals outside but I won't get attached in the same manner that I did with Hermes and bring them into our home. on a happy note we did adopt a little kitten for the children on Christmas it was Ryan's Christmas present to everyone. We didn't have very much money this year and he decided since he knew the person who had had kittens on Halloween so they were just weaning to give everyone a kitten for Christmas it also worked out that they only made things that he had to purchase were the items for the cat itself. Now here once I get the tax money I will purchase shots, tagging, and when she is old enough I'll get her (Luna) spayed. I'm a big proponent of spaying and neutering all animals that aren't being bred for a very distinct and important purpose.

Leah, I adopted a cat once at an apartment complex where I lived. His owners had moved and left him behind. I already had 2 or 3 cats and he was around them before I had him tested for feline leukemia. He was positive but by that time my cats had all been exposed to him. But they were all vaccinated so I kept him and just didn't worry about the other cats. I named him Zinfandel. He lived 5 or 6 years before he got sick from the fog and died. Sweetest kitty. I have adopted strays several times since then. I always keep the new kitty away from the others until I am able to test the new kitty. Once I adopted a feral mama and 2 of her kittens. I did have her tested but the vet said it was unlikely she had it because the kittens wouldn't have survived. Most of the rescue groups and shelters where I live test the cats before letting them be adopted.

Sick from feline leukemia, not fog!

Well I'm quite overjoyed to have a kitten again not as much for myself I haven't quite let myself get too attached yet. But rather because I want the kids to get the joy of having a pet. I'm still a apprehensive of Aria I don't want her to scare the poor little kitten but so far the kitten is quite happy to have the children as the children are to have the kitten. I have had to get on to the children a few times about overworking the kitten and about how to properly care for the kitten not to carry it too much how to carry it if you do pick it up and allowing the kitten it's space because it says own person and it deserves its own space. Overall though I think it's been a resounding success. I'm hoping that once we get our taxes to get an automatic litter box that way Ayla will not have to change the litter box for me as much as I would like to change the litter twice a day I'm not allowed to change the litter box at all my immunologist was very particular about this I'm not allowed to go anywhere near the litter box. Apparently while I'm on the immune suppressants that's a big no no. But if I had the automatic litter box that wouldn't be a concern and I was looking at the price it wouldn't be very much more expensive once the original purchase was done to get the litter trays than it is to get the literate self more than what I'm paying now.

When kittens start out with kids they usually are always great with them . My cats aren't used to kids and the noise they make and just hide. My niece has 5 cats and then had a baby. The cats are so curious about him and like to be close to him.
