Fritzy 22's Journal, 08 Feb 24

Went over on both carbs and calories today. I'm rethinking my eating times doing IF. I usually eat from around 5-6am until 1-2pm. I'm used to not being hungry at night. But I've been getting up so early and having just coffee anywhere from 4:30-5:30 and nothing to eat until maybe 8 or 9 am, if then. I'm ending up having my last meal before 11am so I get really hungry in the late afternoon. I used to always have some kind of toast with coffee in the morning, whether 1/4 bagel, or half English muffin or toast. Sometimes I'd have a bowl of cereal like Cheerios or Life. But since I'm trying keep carbs under 100 grams a day I'm only having coffee.

The other day I noticed puffiness on the outside of both ankles and it feels like there may be fluid in there. Something else to ask my doctor about next week. I ordered a wedge pillow to keep my legs elevated when laying down. Thought about ordering a walking stick or cane in case I wake up again one day unable to put weight on my knee. Then decided to look for them at CVS or Walgreens.

I got a decent night's sleep last night by keeping 2 of my cats out of the bedroom. They were happy enough sleeping in the guest room with a heated throw on the bed. I still had Bobby and one cat. Bobby sometimes wants to burrow under the quilt but knows to go to the very end of the bed and not lean against me. Tony the cat will sleep without budging until morning. Hope to do the same thing tonight so I can sleep until at least 5am.

Sounds like a plan! I'm keeping a new cat sequestered in my room because he's scared of the other cats. He's already developed a routine where he gets pets when I first lie down and then moves where he won't be kicked.

Thanks AncientHippie, my plan didn't work so good last night. After I fed the cats in the master bathroom I went to the guest room. They normally follow me at night and want to lay on me or the heated throw blankets. Then I get a chance to sneak out with Bobby and go back to my bedroom. But I fell asleep in the guest room and 2 of the cats were somewhere else. But I woke at 3am and everyone was on the bed laying next to me or on me. So I went to the main bedroom with just Bobby and Tony following. Was able to sleep from 3am until 5. It will get better when the nights aren't so cold. The cats will then find other places to sleep.

I am not an early riser if I can help it. I hate waking up at 4am or even 5am. I can't fathom having nothing to eat after 11am or even 2pm. I am barely hungry by 11am and have my first meal around them. A real meal. Bread without any protein just makes me hungry.I can't eat a lot of bread due to the sodium. I have a couple canes and they do come in handy. It's been years since I have slept with a pet. They seemed to take up a huge chunk of my bed.

It's funny how cats always find a super comfy spot for themselves.

Cats, know their worth.

I also have trouble with water retention in my lower legs. I've had to go to a very low sodium diet to help and I find compression socks are very helpful on the bad days.

Thanks Morticia! I've never been a,night owl. Even before retirement I rarely went to bed later than 10pm.it always took awhile to fall asleep. But once asleep I would sleep until the alarm went off. Now I can go to bed as early as I want and it's as I can do to stay up for an hour after dark. So my body is now used to me sleeping from about 8:30 until 3am. And my lets are getting used to that too. I'm trying to change things so I can sleep in until 6am at least, maybe when we change the c!ocks. But I give my cat an insulin shot every 12 hours, right now it's 5 am and pm. I think that can change to 6 and 6 when we "spring forward". I'm starving when I wake up since I stop eating early in the day. But I'm too lazy to have anything more than coffee and toast. Maybe I should buy a box of cereal. Watching carbs is tougher than I thought it would be. Pets on my bed is just a reality for me, Even though they have their own beds!

AncientHippie, I took a small rug out of the dryer and set it down in the dining room which has no furniture. A couple minutes later 2 cats were laying on the rug!

Thanks Bandrai, my cats think they are in charge. They're probably right.

Thanks ParaNerdGirl, I've never noticed puffy ankles before. I think it's related to my knee problem. I'm staying off my feet alot, keeping my legs elevated. I am trying to move around more, to get at least 200 steps an hour in.

I seem to be reducing my overall inflammation with taking the ibuprofen at night. Hope the doctor is helpful.
