Fritzy 22's Journal, 02 Jan 24

Did I say no bread in 2024? Need to cross that off the list of New Years resolutions. Failed on day one. Failed on intermittent fasting too. I had an Asian chicken salad around 1:30pm and that was supposed to be it for the day. Around 6:30 I was hungry and started thinking about the loaf of Oroweat oatnut bread in the freezer. Finally I made a piece of toast with butter. This morning I added it to the food journal and was happy to see I was still under 100 grams net carbs. So that will be my focus, not the bread if I can eat it and be under my carb goal.

Yesterday I made a cup of coffee and then realized the half and half had spoiled. Really bad. Not sure how, the sell by date was days away and I hadn't left the container out on the counter. Well since the coffee was ready I decided to try to drink it black with 1 teaspoon of sugar. Not as bad as I expected.I've always tried drinking coffee less sweet and never gave a thought to 1 or 2 tablespoons of half and half. Drank it the same way this morning, even though I bought half and half yesterday - for porch kitty.

This morning I made half a piece of toast and ate it dry. My carbs will be under 100 grams today but I can't have a glass of milk or the pineapple I had planned on. Last night I made oatmeal for today and tomorrow so that's most of today's carbs are coming from. I use milk to make the oatmeal and will slice a banana in it. No sugar added.

My knee is feeling so much better! I'm not sure I even need to see the specialist if and when I get a call from his office. I spent 3 full days mostly in bed with 4 pillows to prop me up and a few more pillows to raise the leg. Only got up to feed the pets and let Bobby out and to go to the kitchen to get meals. And to the bathroom. I even kept a gallon of water on the nightstand to refill the water glass. Yesterday I had to get up and get some things done though. Went to the grocery store around 8am. Came home and did some laundry and vacuumed all the hard floors and used the Bona mop to clean the guest bath and hallway. Was planning on mopping the kitchen and dining room and living room today.

Starting to think about forbidden food is my thing as well. Ahhh so annoying. But I do it. I think being within your calorie limit is the important thing. So that was good. Hope you have a good day. I would probably see the specialist.

Thanks Liv! I always focus on calories and rarely go over 1000-1100, often less. Mostly because I don't eat 3 meals. But I will really try to keep carbs below 100 net grams. It was eye opening to see since I planned on oatmeal with a slice banana that there weren't enough carbs left for the pineapple wedges I bought or my usual glass of milk.

Liv, I'll see the specialist if they call me. Even just to know if I have to keep resting my knee or if it's okay to take the dog for a walk.

When I focus on the foods that I feel are healthy for me and that I keep on my "go-to" list, I choose to eat much better. I keep a list on my fridge to help me remember that I prefer healthy over not so healthy. I also keep a copy of the list on my phone, so I use it as a guideline when I go shopping. It truly helps. I have had horrible joint issues. I got on a no to low lectin diet. It almost alleviated the swelling and pain altogether. Gluten, dairy, and sugar are huge triggers for my pain. So I try to eat very little of those kinds of foods. Everyone is different. A great thing I have done to help myself know what foods trigger my pain and which don't is to start off fresh. I do a 3 day fast of just drinking bone broth. Then, I start introducing other foods a couple of days at a time. It made it clear which foods are on the bad to eat list. I don't focus on them... I focus on the good foods that make me feel better. I also take magnesium and other supplements to help me. I have just started using an app that helps me count my calories. That has already helped me with my weight loss as an addition to this program app. Both are fantastic together!

So glad your knee is feeling better! I go to nutritionist today ..not gonna lie, I'm a bit scared to see what measurements are...still at 134+. Still eating right ...😬😟

Thanks Amelia, I guess healthy foods are different for different people. I am eating oatmeal with a sliced banana because it is healthy for me, but it sounds like it wouldn't be good for you. I try to follow the anti inflammatory diet which is similar to the Mediterranean diet. I injured knee somehow and resting seems to be healing it very slowly.

Thanks Diana! I was surprised. I've been resting slot since the pain started over 2 months ago but totally staying off my feet totally (as much as you can when living alone with pets) for 3 days seems to have really helped. I may risk taking Bobby for a walk in a day or two just to see what happens.. If it was me, I would probably skip the nutritionist for at least a month of normal eating. I wouldn't expect good news right now

I had bread for dinner last night. Not with, but for. Almost gone now.

So happy about your knee being better!!! A piece of bread is something I like to have so I get Keto Bread which has no net carbs.

Thanks Kat! Sounds like my kind of dinner!

Thanks Morticia! The knee still feels better. I've been doing more today than I planned on and I'm feeling the beginning of an ache. But not bad. I've never had Keto bread. Is it good?

Some brands are pretty good. I like carbonaut. But in the US you probably have a pretty good selection. Also low carb wraps can be pretty good and a lot lower in cal than "normal" wraps

I did good thru the holidays and now yesterday and today have went over my calories and only fasted about 12hrs also not feeling well think I'm getting sick ugh I don't like to be sick at all...Goodluck on the no bread I need to try that myself I can give up soda but the bread is harder for me, pasta I don't like much and potatoes I love but haven't been eating them much either...

Thanks Liv. I never use wraps but people seem to like them.

Saranchrisriley, you sound slot like me. I've been working on giving up sodas, but did have some diet 7Up and Squirt last week. But the prices are keeping me away from them. Yesterday the "sale" price for 12 cans of Coke, Pepsi,7Up, all of it wad $9.99! Too much for me to spend. I am going to allow myself bread if I stay within my allowed calories and no more than 100 grams of carbs. That's why I toasted a half slice of bread only this morning. I not crazy about pasta or noodles at all but I do love potatoes

Saran, hope you feel better soon and that it isn't anything serious. Lots of flu and Covid where I live

It is so easy to beat ourselves up when we set absolute goals and dont achieve them 100% The all or nothing doesnt work for me and has worked against me..down on myself. dont want to try again. failure. When I do this, I lose. what works better for me is to look at what and why? what distracted me and why did i give in? what can i do differently to meet my goal? sugar is my hardest. even "good" food options have it and I have a sweet tooth. so sugar every meal and snack and some, and all or nothing seems too large. so I look at each choice: candy bar or apple? soda or flavored vitamin water? am I really hungry enough for that late night tea and sweet? no. that's habit. little by little we win. dont give up!

I agree!! GO TO THE SPECIALIST!!!!! Even if you are feeling good. It may not be feeling good a week after your appointment. Don't over do it just because you feel better now. Start slowly.

Thanks YOH and Katrapp, reality set it last night. I started feeling a small ache around 9pm. Didn't want to take Ibuprofen since the pain wasn't bad. Then around 1am the ache was do bad I had to take the pain pill. I didn't feel like I'd overdone things, a quick trip to the grocery store on Monday and just stuff around the house Monday and Tuesday. I did go up and down the porch and garage steps about a dozen times during those 2 days. I will followup about the referral this week.
