grammalaura's Journal, 03 Dec 23

I’ve been having occasional days when I just felt “off” for a few years now. It’s happening more and more often as time goes on and lasting longer. This last “spell” has been going on for a few days. I checked my blood pressure and it’s fine. Next my blood glucose (after a 15 hour fast.) It read 18.2.
Holy Moly! That can’t be right!
Tried again - same number. Guess I’m off to the doctor as soon as I can get in. In the meantime I’m trying to rework my meal plans “on the fly.”
Given my age, condition, food habits, and family history; I should have expected this. That doesn’t mean I like it. I’m feeling a little lost at the moment to be honest.

Awwww of course you feel lost, sounds a bit scary Grammalaura. I don’t know much about diabetes but I trust that you do. You’re wise to catch it, trust your instincts and go to Doc. Please take good care of you! 🙏

Definitely something I should look into as well as diabetes runs in the family. Thankfully diabetes is reversible with proper diet and exercise and insulin just masks the problem and keeps you metabolically sick. Hope all goes well for you.

@Lindafitter: I know practically nothing *useful* about managing diabetes - but I’m definitely about to learn! I did some internet research (and I bet my doctor is going to love that! lol) and got some tips from my sister, whose numbers were similar to mine when she was diagnosed. I’m just stumbling along as best I can till I can get an appointment.

I bought a spin bike very recently to help strengthen the muscles that protect my knees. Using it regularly will help for this, too.

Hey. Glad you started testing. The glucose monitor is quite old too. Walmart brand and test strips are affordable but by your numbers in thinking you're not in the states. This is reversal and controllable by diet. Go to YouTube. Watch some of Dr Ken Berry videos and Dr Boz. Also Dr Jason Fung. That's it! Dr Berry has very good beginner educatial videos. Diet got ya into it. And diet can get you out. You got this! Things that won't raise blood sugar: meat, beef, chicken, pork. Fish, eggs. Cheese. Greek yogurt plain. Bacon, butter, low glycemix veggies like broccoli, cauliflower, salad if you want. 😋
