Fritzy 22's Journal, 25 Sep 23

Yesterday I didn't feel good starting in the early afternoon. Was trying to figure out how to describe how I was feeling in case it continued and I wanted to see my doctor. I got on Google and looked up "light headed". No, that wasn't it. I didn't feel dizzy or like I was going to faint or off balance. Looked up "woozy". My mom used to say she felt woozy. That wasn't it. Then I thought maybe low sugar, or high sugar or maybe because my Vitamin D level was so low. Thought about my thyroid. But my vitamin D levels have been low for years. I'm always tired, but yesterday was different. This morning I woke up and felt better. Felt alert. Then checked "not alert" on Google. It gave me all kinds of information on lethargy, something I didn't look up. I think that was it. I think it may be dehydration or my constant insomnia, so lack of good sleep. I have to remember to drink water, and just forget alot. I've been drinking Crystal Lite raspberry ice tea because it's easy for me to drink alot of it. But it has artificial sweetner in it so don't want it all the time.

I'm feeling better today, but started getting tired around 11am. I've been up since 5. I haven't gotten in many steps today. The last 2 weeks my goal has been to get to 11,000 steps by 1pm and then not worry about it. Then I usually add another 2000-3000 steps by the end of the day. Today it's after 3 and I am about 7500 steps. Just like drinking water it's something I have to focus on.

I had a hard boiled egg for breakfast. I read there aren't many food sources for Vitamin D, but there is some in egg yolks. I also read that to get it from the sun to spend at least 20 minutes a day out in the sun, best around noon. No wonder so many people have the deficiency, we've learned from an early age to use sunscreen and avoid sun exposure. I manage about 7 or 8 minutes in the sun on the deck but my skin is so dry anyway I don't really need to add to that problem. But I am remembering to take the supplements every morning.

I am easily dehydrated now that I am older. Hubby and I both have to take Vitamin D supplements.

Sounds like you’ve had a lot going on the last couple of days, plus an upcoming trip. Getting them Zzzs & staying hydrated may be what you already know will help you through!! Take care

Thanks Morticia. I wonder how long before the supplements get my vitamin D levels up.

Thanks Foody, don't really know what was wrong the other day but at least it didn't continue. I never really had insomnia until I retired. Never thought I'd spend my retirement years getting up at 4 or 5am .

Check out sleep apnea: You have insomnia (difficulty staying asleep). You have hypersomnia (excessive daytime sleepiness). You have attention, concentration, or memory problems while awake. You are irritable and experience mood swings. You have risk factors for sleep apnea, such as being overweight or obese, drinking alcohol, or smoking tobacco. You have a decreased interest in sex or are experiencing sexual dysfunction.

Don't forget you need Vitamin K with Vitamin D, very important. Google it

Thanks OldMan, someone else told me told me to take Vitamin K with Vitamin D so I did Google it. I will ask my doctor about it because he only said Vitamin D. I read that a deficiency in vitamin is not common and there is alot of it in things I like to eat especially Brussels sprouts and spinach.

Thanks OldMan, I did see a specialist about sleep apnea. Don't think that's the problem.I think my issue is being retired and not being on a regular sleep scheduld

I struggle with getting enough plain water too. I hate it. I do drink a lot of unsweet tea to balance my diet soda addiction. Hot black teas in the morning and iced with lemon or orange slices the rest of the day. Caffeine free diet pepsi and the dreaded water in the evenings. Some days I drink waaayyyy more pepsi than I should...but 🤷‍♀️. I hope you feel much better tomorrow!❣️

Thanks 2melons I am feeling better. It was just Sunday that I feel so odd I didn't know how to describe it. I love Pepsi and Coke and have given it up dozens of times. Right now I don't have any in the house. I will have it when I go out to eat. The water is so boring. I usually drink 18 to 24 ounces of fat free milk so that helps

Most Americans are Vit D deficient. We don't get it from food, or even from sunshine in the winter. Everyone should supplement in the winter. There's a blood test that your doc can give you to see what your score is. I got tested today, but I had to ask for it. -haven't gotten the number back yet.

Erika, my lab tests a month ago included 3 different Vitamin D results and all were low. I put the number in a post a few days ago. I paid more attention to the cholesterol numbers at first.

Erika, I found out recently that most insurance companies no longer pay for Vitamin D testing unless there is a medical reason/diagnosis for it. The darned things cost 250.00 bucks here! Because I was deficient at my previous appointment which was paid for Labcorp had to rebill with my doctors diagnosis to get the insurance company to pay for it.
