Fritzy 22's Journal, 27 Sep 23

It really is beginning to feel like fall. Yesterday morning the deck was wet when I got up. There was a tiny bit of drizzle going on, just enough to make everything look wet. It's cool this morning, still in the 60's. Even though I am lazy in the mornings, because it was cool enough, I got outside around 7:45 for a walk with Bobby. He was so excited. We went a little further because I wanted my pedometer to show 7000 steps by the time we got back. I think we walked 2.5-3 miles. I haven't been doing so good with the steps ever since the weekend. I basically need to stay moving around the house and yard and aim for 1000 steps each hour until around 1pm or 11,000 steps. Yesterday I barely made it to 7000 steps for the entire day.

Got back to my 1/4 bagel with reduced fat cream cheese this morning with my coffee. I am reducing how much sugar I put in the coffee and how much half and half. I was putting about 2 tablespoons of half and half in. The color is off! Much darker. I hope I can eventually drink it black. If not, I may give it up

I have a big yellow onion and some mushrooms I was going to stir fry with chicken. But I don't want to de frost the chicken breast so I may make scrambled eggs with the vegetables. Thought about cooking some rice and adding it all to the rick. But I never lose weight when I eat rice and I am trying to be careful before my lunch at Red Robin tomorrow. So many decisions!

Note: I decided to make the rice too. Hope I can stick to 1/2 cooked or 1/4 cup dry..

Great idea adding veggies to eggs. Don't know why I forget i could do that too. I don't love mushrooms but I'm going to eat them more as they are great for the immune system.

Oh and good source of vitamin D too.

Good job getting all those steps in! I have been worrying less about daily steps and aiming for a weekly total. Those days I put in on the treadmill usually balance out some of those lame desk-jockey days. I read something recently about how even 3000 steps a day can be beneficial to health.

Thanks Bear, I read that mushrooms have some Vitamin D in them. I like having mushrooms and onions around. I always put them in scrambled eggs or omelets. I don't eat meat every day, but can get some protein if I still fry mushrooms, Brussels sprouts and asparagus. I had 6 ounces of mushrooms with the eggs and rice. Too many mushrooms and I'm really full. But I won't eat again today. 6 grams of protein in the mushrooms!

Thanks Moko, I'm doing the challenge for 30 miles each week so the weekly step total matters. I'm retired so get most of my steps just doing things around home. Before I retired I spent all day sitting in a cubicle so probably was lucky to get 2000 or 3000 steps a day

You get in more steps than me! Even though I workout for at least an hour most every day, it doesn't register as steps when I weightlift. I bums me out! Have a great time at RR tomorrow!👍🩷

Very, very nice stepping Fritzy, guessing Bobby might be liking the cooler weather walking? I’ve been working on a less cream ~ darker morning coffee too. I normally don’t go for flavored coffees. I tried a little scoop of toasted coconut blend with my regular, no cream, was pretty good…(but not my daily cuppa) 👣👍🏼🐾

My doctor says 7000 steps a day is good.

Thanks Diana - most of my steps just come from around the house and I get more on the days I walk Bobby. I think it is the lay out of my house that makes it possible for me to get 10k steps or more. The master bedroom is on the other side of the house from the laundry room and the other 3 bedrooms. I've counted at least 40 steps just one way from my bedroom to the master. And from the guest room where I usually sleep in the summer (because I can sleep with the window open) it's about 50 steps to the master bedroom. I go back and forth and back and forth dozens of time each day. Then I go outside and fill up 3 bird feeders, one at a time. My yard is big, over 1/3 acre so if I am doing anything out there the steps just add up. If I went to the gym like you, I wouldn't get hardly any steps in! And your workouts are much harder than what I do.

Thanks Foody, Bobby likes it when the weather is cooler because even if I am lazy in the mornings I can come up with an excuse not to walk if it's still cool out at 8am or so. I am getting used to about half the sugar I was putting in the coffee and it's funny how I always just judged by the color of the coffee if I had enough half and half in it. I haven't tried creamers. Honestly, it wouldn't be hard to just give it up. I've only been drinking it about 2 years after stopping about 15 years ago.

Thanks Morticia. I read that a company that manufactured pedometers just picked 10,000 as a number for no reason and it seems to have worked. I never paid any attention to it until the local news did a story on how many steps it would take to maintain/not gain weight and also how many steps you need it you are overweight and don't want to become obese (or something like that). I remember looking it up and came up with at least 10,500 for me not to keep on gaining. My doctor never says anything about it but just says I should walk or do some kind of exercise for at least 30 minutes at least 4 or 5 times a week. I don't think he would consider me doing laundry and walking back and forth to the closet to hang it up as exercise

You hit my step goal on your walk! Awesome job!!

Wow, I didn't realize you could get that much protein from mushrooms. I'm thinking about trying that Ryze coffee that has mushrooms in it.

Thanks Daddy! I would thinking would get lots of steps taking care of those cows of yours!

Thanks Bear, it was actually way too many mushrooms. I cooked 6 ounces and usually a serving is no more than 3 ounces for me. But I wanted to use them up. My doctor keeps telling me I can get all the protein I need from plants. I can make a stir fry with broccoli, Brussels sprouts, mushrooms, asparagus and even onion and get around 10 grams of protein. Add a tablespoon of soy sauce and that's 2 more grams. Sometimes I'll add chopped almonds or nuts. But honestly it takes a huge quantity of food. It's easier with a reasonable serving of all the veggies and add some chicken

Yeah I like to add a little meat too for a different reason. I think there's some things that we can't get from plants. Maybe not alot of things, but still I think it's good to eat a little. But I don't love meat. I'm actually enjoying eating more plant foods lately!

Yes Fritzy I do get a lot of steps. But all the rain we had has me spoiled right now, there is still so much grass for them to eat I haven’t had to start feeding hay from the barn yet. Add in the supplement tubs I filled at the start of summer and they spoiled pampered cattle!
