Draglist's Journal, 15 Aug 14

Ate good calorie total today but 202.4 when I got home (2.4 pounds of extra water retention). But I had two cups of cottage cheese and a Monster zero energy drink today. Those two items totaled 2000 mg of sodium! I'm excited to discover that may be one of the reasons for my weight swings despite low calories. I will probably not be able to purge the sodium this weekend, but will target that beginning Sunday and will follow the experiment with interest. Sister Nancy will be here shortly, then it's time to eat! Denise has been preparing lots of great stuff. Enjoy your weekend!

I think your theory re salt may be right. The only food that I used to have that is high in salt is gammon steak (about 2500 mg for the one I had, which I didn't know at the time.) Once I had it the day before I got weighed, and I gained 3 lb even though I stuck to my calories. That's the first time I've ever looked at how much salt is in something, and I haven't eaten it since

I think you are on to it Draglist. Only recently have I noticed a very strong reaction to high levels of salt. I used to be able to tolerate all the salty foods I craved, now a little too much salt and I retain water and wake up the next morning with very puffy (like mickey mouse) hands!

Has your sister seen you since you have made this transformation?

I'm with you on the sodium. I've been extremely salt sensitive for years. I just bought some potassium "salt substitute" yesterday. I typically don't add salt to my cooking, but I'm trying to incorporate some new foods into my diet (like jicama) which are just too bland without some salt added. Hopefully, this salt substitute will kick up the flavor a bit without causing water retention, or bp rise. Have a great weekend, Bill. Hope you have a great visit with your sister.
