jmb3450's Journal, 22 May 14

I'm a little frustrated, this morning I'm still at 244, the same I was 6 days ago. Yesterday was actually about a quarter pound less so that quarter pound came back. I've decided to log my weight once a week but am still checking it each morning.

I'm being very accurate in logging my food and activity, according to the FS calculators for those I've got a good calorie deficit each day so I don't understand why no drop. Sodium intake might be a factor, I've got to look at that more carefully.

The weight I'm at now is the lowest I've been in probably 12 or 13 years, maybe my body is resisting the loss? Also I have hypothyroid but I'm taking medication for that everyday. Oh well...I'm determined to keep at this and make it a permanent lifestyle change, I guess this is just part of that process. So making sure I drink lots of water today, watching my salt, and cutting back on calories a bit to see how that does. Hope everyone has a great day.

The trouble with checking every day is that your weight does fluctuate. So much better to weight just once a week (says me, who is like you and gets on the scales every morning when I go for a shower, lol). Are you eating enough? Sometimes if you dont eat your allowance you dont lose weight either. Also, have you measured yourself? Sometimes you lose inches before the weight. I know as this has happened to me and several other people that I know. You're doing really well though. Have a lovely though

I've thought about taking measurements but haven't done it, maybe I can get my wife to help me with that, good idea.....I've noticed a difference in how my clothes fit....they're looser so that's progress. I think I'm eating enough, online calculators indicate I should be eating around 1800 to 1900 calories a day, that amount being 75% of my TDEE. I've got my RDI set to 1600 but have been going a bit over it most days.

Measuring can be much more exciting than looking at the scale. Just keep doing what you are doing it will happen when you least expect it to. Have a great day.

How's your water intake? Sometimes that stubborn fat and excess sodium need more H2O the flush them out.

Ches, I drank at least 2 liters of water yesterday. But what I had for dinner was pretty high in sodium, more than my food diary shows because the chicken was marinated in a pretty salty solution, it tasted good but salty. I read somewhere that our bodies work to maintain a sodium level roughly equal to ocean water, so for every 400mg of extra sodium our bodies hold onto about a pound of water. I don't know, the best I can do is keep drinking lots of water, keep an eye on my sodium, and keep doing what I've been doing. I'm in this for the long haul so if I keep doing the right things and logging food and activity accurately the results should come. You're doing great, congrats, keep up the good work!

It sounds to me like you're doing everything right. It's so frustrating when you're being good but not seeing the results you want. Your attitude is very good about making this a permanent lifestyle vs. a "DIE-et" (I so HATE that word!). I've also found that sometimes when you're not losing lbs you're losing in size / measurements. Don't worry jmb, just keep at it & the weight will come off.
