Draglist's Journal, 16 Jan 14

Got home from work after a three-beer happy hour and weighed in at 215.4, exactly what I weighed this morning. Ate a chicken breast and then did a 635 calorie workout on the treadmill. Weighed again and down to 214.8. Might lose more by tomorrow's official weigh in, but who knows these days?
Seem to have gained a bit of muscle mass though... Here are the numbers:

Muscle is good. Though it weighs more then fat, and perhaps are a little heavier, you look thinner. Go figure. I like it myself.

Metabolic age. :) I'd be interested in knowing that for myself. How do you like the scale. Have you checked bf% with a caliper? Any idea how accurate these are?

so you get all those numbers just from stepping on this scale? hmmm... might have to trade in my boring digital scale. My parents like to use my scale, and check into getting one of these.

Your visceral fat is going down to 9! yeah for you, i would give you a trophy just for that today man! your numbers are beautiful and that metabollic age at 23, oh i envy that! mine still saying 44...it must be the quality of the workout you're doing - how do you get to 635 cals on treadmill..what setting? mine only says 270 cals in 30 mins so my settings must be low!

northernmusician, calipers don't work generally give accurate readings for folks that have lost a lot of weight and have excess skin. I have a very good set of body fat calipers that I purchased. They work fine on my son, who has always been an athlete and never been overweight. However, they show my body fat as 8%. I was a tad skeptical about the accuracy of BIA, myself. So, I wanted to verify the readings from my scale just to make sure that my scale was reasonably accurate. I went to the doctor yesterday and was weighed on their scale, dressed with no shoes and weighed 1.6 pounds more than I did without my clothes on my Tanita a couple of hours later, having fasted in between. To check my bf readings, I entered my data into an on-line bf calculator and got the exact same result as my Tanita. Prior to getting my scale, I also used a bf photo comparison that lets you compare your physique to that of men (or women) with various bf percentages. Again, when I got the Tanita, it matched the range that the photo comparison put me in. I have to say that the Tanita has been more consistent and apparently accurate then I had realistically thought it would be.

Bill, I was just reading your comment about how "if you can't get the weight down, you'll try to get the muscle up and bf down". You know, I've found myself falling into the same mental trap. We, who have been very large, build the mental goal of "Losing Weight", usually for years. And, I believe that's VERY important at first. However, when you've lost most of your excess weight, as you and I have, a change in thinking (and doing) is necessary. Now that your weight is down, bf is down, & muscle is up, we have to stop fixating on the "Total Weight" the scale gives us and key, instead, on the component data. I know that your weight has been "stuck" for a while. However, your body fat percentage was higher when your kids left after their holiday visit. So, you've actually lost fat and gained muscle. So, I believe that you're making great strides towards your goals even though the "Total Pounds" on the scale doesn't necessarily show it. Be of good cheer. You are doing GREAT!

Morning, glad the 3-beer happy hour didn't 'show' on the scale. Fingers crossed for a drop today.
