Draglist's Journal, 12 Jan 14

Had company over to visit and watch the football playoffs, so didn't do a pre-dinner weigh in. Had three unexpected beers and five pretzels, so made it through the games pretty well. Enjoyed dinner. Post dinner weigh in was 218.2. Yuk. Let's see what we have in the morning. Not even going to record the Tanita numbers as they are all skewed by eating a full dinner. Adjustment day tomorrow. 600-1000 calories. Enjoy the work week!

Hey Bill. I'm sure that a good adjustment day will set you right again. I, too, watched some football today. I had a new idea though. Drafting on Keld's idea (he said he likes to journal while riding an exercise bike), I recorded the playoffs. Then tonight, I got on the wife's treadmill and watched two games in a little over two hours while walking 2.5 mph. I burned an extra 557 calories in lieu of vegging out in my recliner. Another bonus, is when you're walking on the treadmill, you're not reaching for munchies during the game. I have never used a treadmill before (I'm a stair master guy), and I don't watch a lot of TV, but I believe that I'll be using the treadmill for any TV time that I do log in the future.

Draglist, check out this on-line article: http://fox4kc.com/2014/01/06/walking-while-they-work-treadmill-desks-installed-for-911-dispatchers-in-johnson-county/ Johnson County, KS installed treadmill desks for their dispatchers. They walk at 2 miles per hour while at work (if they choose to). Have a great night. I'm off to bed now. Enough damage done for one day.

Jumping in here. Since I have received a fitbit, I take a keen interest in how many steps I do. In the evenings myself and my wife wind down by watch some tv series. I see this as wasted exercise time. I have taken to walking on the spot and have tracked it extensively with my fitbit (which counts the number of steps exactly). It generates a good sweat, and raises my heart level nicely (I have checked this as well). Other than it looking strange (the dog just gives me curious looks all the time), I think it works. In fact, it hurts in places normal walking doesn't (because i think the walking action is changed, I seem to pick my leg up higher instead of a glide forward like a normal walk.) Just my thoughts. Have a good day everyone!

It's all a matter of using the time we have as well as we can, isn't it? I kinda like the journaling/biking mix. I also do it when we watch shows, when I want to up the burn a day. I don't see it as a "requirement" for me at all, though. I mostly do this when I can tell I'm not gonna meet my expected goals for the day. It works though. All of the above are GREAT ideas. Oh, and also, I stand up at work. Always. It might not be a lot, but if I register is as Standing/reading in my fitbit, it easily gives me 300-400 extra calories in a full work day. Win!

Also, I like the expression "Unexpected beer". They just came from out of nowhere and attacked you, right? ;)

I hate when beer sneaks up on you like that. The only way to combat them is drink them :) Hope you enjoyed. I love a good ice cold beer. Florida, there will be several in my future :)

Wine often sneaks up and attacks me, so I feel your pain! The extra pounds will come off easy enough, no worries!
