Debbie Cousins's Journal, 23 Dec 19

Found out Saturday that I have a bad heel spur sticking right into my Achilles tendon (the reason it's been SO VERY painful to walk lately). The only "cure" for it is to have a surgery that would lay me out for three months and THEN have to be followed by physical therapy and a couple months of wearing a surgical boot. NOT doing that anytime in the foreseeable future; so, I'm following the course to "manage" it -- I can NEVER go barefoot, so I ordered some prescribed special slippers that have a raised heel, ordered some tennis shoes (which I discovered on Amazon are only really called "sneakers" these days, who knew!). They also have a 1.98" heel because I am supposed to always have my heel higher than the rest of my foot now. FUN TIMES!

We might have "blown up" our car last night! When we got home from the church Christmas party, the car kept "running" - it was the fan. Our live-in, Dwayne, turned it back ON and found that it was in the RED HOT zone! He checked it this morning, and the radiator was basically completely dry - no antifreeze! The car won't start this morning at all. He's going to try it again around noon, but his brother (a mechanic) says that if it doesn't start we've probably blown a head gasket. We have NO money for a new (USED!) car, but we know that God will supply for our need! We do have a 2-passenger clunky truck that we can use if push comes to shove until God shows us what He has in store.

Our family get-together is tomorrow. Most everything is already made for it. My husband just needs to make some Seafood Salad today and then Cucumber Sandwiches in the morning. Then, I'll have to make the Chicken Rolls right before the party. Someone asked me what they are. Here's the 5-ingredient instructions:

1 package brown & serve rolls; 1 stick butter; 1 can Cream of Chicken Soup; 1 cup of shredded chicken; dash nutmeg. Pinch the bread from the tops of the rolls, hollowing out all but about a 3/8"-1/2" shell "cup". Brown those bread crumbs in the stick of butter until golden brown, then cool for about 5 minutes. Add the chicken, nutmeg and chicken soup to the bread crumbs and mix. Then, scoop the mixture back into the bread "cups" and bake at 350 degrees F for 10 minutes until browned. These little boogers are delicious! NOT a diet-friendly dish, so it'll be awhile before I have them again!

Merry Christmas Eve EVE!

https://www.healthline.com/health/sports-injuries/heel-spur-exercises I have managed my heel spurs this way for almost 30 years, no surgery. Not going barefoot has been a game changer for me. I don’t even go barefoot during nighttime bathroom trips. I rarely have pain anymore and when it flares up I do the stretches and also ice it. I can generally alleviate the pain within days. Give it a try if you haven’t already. If you can take ibuprofen, it will help too. Good luck!

I checked out the link, @Danana. I only looked at the first two exercises though, because both were exactly how I'm NOT supposed to put my heel in that position. My heel spur isn't UNDER my heel, it's at the back, poking directly into the Achilles' tendon. I sincerely appreciate you sharing the link, though, and I'm glad you've been able to manage your heel pain by doing the exercises! Thanks, perhaps they can help someone else who is reading this.

I'm so glad you weren't hurt (who knows what might have happened) in the car. It is a bummer when things happen like that and money is tight. We are a "1 1/2" car household here too (a car and an old beat up truck too). You are right, things have a way of working out, with faith. I know you want to avoid foot surgery, but if it is affecting your quality of life it might be a good idea to plan ahead and start seeing if there is a time you can fit it into your year. Enjoy your family and have a Merry Christmas. XOXO
