Fritzy 22's Journal, 04 Dec 19

Just got home from my doctor appointment. I wonder why I always feel the need to go get tacos or something bad to eat after the appointment. Just wondering. Really wanted to know the results of my lab tests, specifically the one for inflammation or CRP. Last time it was 14 which is really, really high. It should be under 3. Whenever I read about that test it scares me. It supposed to be for inflammation, but doesn't seem to be the kind associated with pain and a high result could mean a high risk for cardio vascular problems. So I tried hard to follow my doctor's instructions to get that number down. It went from 14 to 10. Still not good, but not as bad as before. The way to get it down to normal is to lose weight (which I am doing, very slowly), exercise, and follow the diet. I am not walking as much as I was a couple of years ago. I have excuses now because it is raining a lot. The other blood tests were normal - liver, kidney, glucose level. My blood pressure was 103/70. I talked to my doctor about the fatigue I sometimes experience and told him I started taking Vitamin D and B-12 and I haven't felt the fatigue since. He said it was fine to take those vitamins and maybe also Vitamin C. We talked again about protein. He said I don't need to worry so much about getting enough protein. I should be able to get enough from the plants I eat and nuts, etc. I told him I aim for 40-60 grams a day and he said 30-40 is also fine. He asked what I thought would happen if I didn't get 40 grams a day. I told him I thought protein was good for muscles and that I have weak leg muscles. He said unless I am a body builder or am chopping down trees every day that I am probably fine. My other doctor (women's health) said pretty much the same thing. But both of them are vegan!

Sorry to ramble on and on but I am concerned about my health and getting that one lab result into the normal range. But it appears there is no pill to do it, it is up to me. Everything else is fine, so I need to continue to lose weight, exercise more (daily if possible) and FOLLOW THE DIET which is to eliminate processed food. I have reduced processed food, but so far can't eliminate it totally. But I am trying. And for the most part I have eliminated processed meat, I haven't had pizza in nearly a year.

Blah, blah, blah, blah. That's probably what my journal reads like to most people. Unless you have the same issues it's sometimes hard to relate.

Fritzy, you just go right ahead and blah, blah, blah all you want, after all, it's your journal. I enjoy reading your posts, it helps me to know that other people have the same kinds of issues and concerns I have. Anyone who's not interested can just skip over. I hope your labs for inflammation keep going down.

Did you come to any conclusion about dairy?
04 Dec 19 by member: liv001
Thanks Liv and Shirfleur. I sometimes feel like a hypochondriac because I worry so much. But other than the inflammation, my doctor said I was doing really well. But the inflammation thing can mean something serious, so I will worry until I get it down to a normal range. Liv - I haven't decided about dairy. But the lab result did go from 14 to 10 and I was having very little dairy during that time. I will get another lab test the end of May. I plan on continuing with dairy for the most part. If I lose weight and exercise and the lab test doesn't improve I guess I'll have to conclude that I should give up dairy.

No worries about rain! Walk inside. Look up Leslie Sansone on YouTube. Walk yourself inside!! Glad you are feeling better since taking the vitamin D!! That’s great!! 👍🏻😀

No issues with joint pains or nothing pointing to autoimmune still right? I feel like I asked this before.

Fritzy, my niece was having problems and she's doing much better since she gave up dairy.

Wifey - does pacing count? I keep walking around and looking out the front window waiting for the furnace repair guy to show up. I planned on walking after he finishes. Jcmama - the thing I worry about is the lab test CRP C - Reactive Protein. Otherwise, I have some aches and pains when the weather is cold and a bad shoulder that sometimes bothers me. Autoimmune? Not sure, although I was diagnosed with Graves Disease years ago. No symptoms now. Shirfleur, I gave up dairy for a couple months and really didn't notice a difference. I have skim milk and one mozzarella string cheese a day for the protein. I may try to follow exactly what my doctor wants me to do (vegan) for a week or two in the new year. He said not to worry about the protein if I eat a plant based diet. I'll see if I can do it.

Thinking of you and praying for good results!

I am still a bit weirded out by the fact that your doctor says 30 grams of protein is enough...I am not an expert or anything though

I hear you on the inflammation. My Doctor suggested eliminating potatoes and tomatoes as they contribute to inflammation. Who knew? 😂 I have dropped tomatoes when I realized that I always have heartburn after eating tomato based products. Still eat potatoes 🥔 but not every day. I also choose to cut out wheat 🌾 as it also is inflammatory. I go see my Doctor next month so will how that goes. 🤞

Thanks Diana! Liv - I always question my doctor about the protein and I aim for 40-60 grams a day. But I've heard in many places that most people get more than enough protein and I've heard vegans and vegetarians say there is plenty of protein in plants. I have a hard time with that, knowing from my own logging that unless I am eating many, many cups of veggies or more beans than I'd be comfortable with that it's unlikely I'd reach even 40 grams of protein without eggs, or skim milk or cheese. But I am going to give it a try in January - eat only plants and log them and see what happens. Chow - I gave up "nightshades" for about a year, foods that supposedly caused inflammation and they includes tomatoes and potatoes. But I didn't really notice anything so I eat them now. Minimal tomatoes, but I love potatoes! Hope you get good results when you go to the doctor. Will you have lab work to determine the inflammation?

I am feeling it fritzi. my CRP finally went down to about a 7. It had been up to 14 and as low as 3. I was so excited and I told my doctor about the keto diet and getting down on the prednisone and cutting out medications and she told me all those things don't matter. It hurt my feelings so I quit going to her. I'm doing so much better now. I had to stop all wheat and Grains all Breads and pastas and Dairy and sugar. Those things are all inflammatory to me. once I cut out a lot of things that were inflammatory, and when I tried them again I reacted. Now I know more of what I react to and what I can eat. I will follow you closer.

Skinny - what did your doctor say caused the CRP to go down? My doctor says the most important thing for me to do is to lose weight and exercise daily and also follow an anti-inflammatory diet. How do you react when you eat the things you know cause inflammation? I never have symptoms, just the blood test. The lowest CRP ever got was to 7 and that was when I had lost about 50 pounds. When I gained weight back, CRP went back up to 14. The highest was 18. Sorry your doctor isn't encouraging you. I feel like my doctor is my coach. I'd be so excited if CRP went down to 3.

It could very well be the Graves Disease. Cardiac wise, just keep up with your walking, whatever exercise you can do and this is not an advertisement.... Cheerios or Honey Nut Cheerios. I have been calling patients with results for a very long time and it is always part of the plan. Plants and nuts your fine👏 Let’s see how you’re blood work comes out. This visit sounded like a good one friend 💜💚

Fritzy, my doc said it was her meds. Wap! I never went back to her. I started keto and lost weight and she said it had no bearing. My new docs are cheering me now. It has taken me three years to get my health stable. I am now on my way to Healing. I cut out everything that was processed and all sugar, all grain and related products, and all Dairy. I know those things helped. It's been a long journey and I hope to be an encouragement to you and follow you and I hope you will me too. Just pay a lot of attention to your body and how you're feeling. Write it down so you'll know what you've been doing that creates whatever the problems are. I have so many I can't even put them all down here

I have started to take all of the vitamins you mentioned as well. I think that I am feeling better and have more energy. Sometimes I wonder if that is just in my brain, lol. I'm going to keep taking them though. I have eliminated most all meat and all processed foods from my diet. I still have some inflammatory issues but I am hoping its getting better and maybe takes time. Im starting to like fish, sardines, and things I normally never used to eat. I made pizza with crust made from cauliflower. Then I topped it with tomato puree and veggies. Was very good. I did put some cheese on it although cheese sometimes cramps my tummy. I think the veggies off set that. This might be an option for you if you miss pizza. I got the crust from the Walmart freezer section already made. It was in the healthier food isle. I took out any sauces that are pre made because they have additives in them. It was an experience making my own sauce for the pizza. Eating better takes work, lol. I hope you reach your goals and get your numbers where they need to be!

I hear your pain! I am on an anti-inflammatory diet for an autoimmune disease but the diet has not been difficult for me, except I pretty much have to make all my own foods. If you are old enough to get the AARP magazine, this month there are two excellent article about nutrition; one specifically about the "blue zones", where there are the most people who live to bee 100. Loma Linda, CA, is the only place in the US, and they are mostly vegetarians (the Seventh Day Adventists). I do know the protein thing has been heavily promoted my the meat & dairy industries. All animal products (incl. dairy) are inflammatory, so at least go easy on them. Definitely no processed meats. I still have pizza occasionally, gluten free crust, loads of veggies, no meat, no dairy (Mod Pizza carries a vegan cheese I use just enough to hold it together.) Not a regular but fun occasionally. Also i just read an article in the medical news about the dangers on the kidneys of too much protein. They said in America, there is no danger of too little protein. In starving populations, it is a concern. Weight Watchers still hits hard on protein. I am relieved that I finally don't worry about that anymore. I think you are very fortunate to have two vegan doctors. Keep up the good work!

I think we all can relate. Hang in there🙋‍♀️

Jcmama- It's been over 10 years since I was diagnosed with Grave's disease (which was the 2nd time, the time was about 7 years early). I was told I'm in remission and every time my thyroid is checked, it's normal. Skinny, GoDiet and Delgadalahna - I don't eat processed meat any more or rarely. I don't buy lunch meat or anything at the deli. That's one thing that my doctor really stressed. I might have bacon or ham once in a great while if I go out to breakfast, but don't buy it for home. I still have dairy but may need to give it up eventually if the CRP test doesn't ever reach the normal range. With 2 vegan doctors and the fact that I don't eat much meat anyway (3 or 4 times a week maybe) I feel that I am being led to a plant based diet and may get there eventually. My women's health doctor said it took her awhile to become vegan and she started by cutting out red meat. Then chicken and fish and finally dairy and eggs. I don't know that I will ever become vegan, but maybe vegetarian. Thanks for all the suggestions and support. Thanks Alnona!
