When I'm ravenous for no special reason, I make cabbage soup, because I can eat it all day long without exceeding my RDI. Primarily, it's chicken broth with lots of onions, garlic, tomatoes, carrots and cabbage plus some herbs and spices (I make it thick). I don't really use a recipe, I just add what I happen to have, a package of mixed vegetables or a chopped red bell pepper; a turnip or a rutabaga or a zucchini. No fat, meat, pasta, potatoes, or rice. I usually end up with about 20 cups of soup with a calorie count of about 50-60 calories per cup. Since I usually average about 1500 calories a day, I could, conceivably, eat the whole pot of soup without exceeding my RDI (that has never happened). I don't eat just that during the day, but I fill up on it, and it helps me get safely through a difficult day.

Good stuff. Sometimes I use low sodium V-8 and the chicken broth.

I use V-8 sometimes too, Ma Ka, I never really make it the same way twice, you probably don't either. Jc, it works for me and it certainly is easy. You're right, it's great for this time of year.

I agree - soup can be a great strategy for when you have the munchies.

I remember the trend of The Cabbage Soup Diet. The cool thing about the soup is it takes more calories to digest, than it actually contains. Therefore, it supposedly has “negative calories “. I am not sure if it’s true, but I love the thought of something being “negative calories” 🤪

Thanks everyone for your comments and feedback. I realize this won't work for everyone, but perhaps it will help a few people, as it has definitely helped me. Take this concept and turn it into something that works for you.
