melissatwa's Journal, 01 Nov 19

This week my hubby and I went for a little trip to the Oregon coast. I grew up spending my holidays visiting my grandparents who lived a block from the ocean in Lincoln city. That is also where we spent our honeymoon 26 years ago. We had a wonderful time away this week even though it was just three nights. I took a picture of "Grandma's" house. My dad built the deck! Although it is now a stranger's home, I love it still. We also spent a couple nights in Cannon Beach, thus we had to get the picture of Haystack Rock! On the way home we saw the elk! They were so beautiful, and it was such a treat! We ate very simply by picking up fresh food in grocery stores. One night we had a tiny kitchen, so I cooked some shrimp and veggies! For breakfasts we had fruit, paleo bar, and cheese curds from the Tillamook Cheese factory. We walked for hours and hours on the beach, and I did some running in the morning. It felt so good to not be carrying extra weight and to be contented with good food but not overeating, as was so frequent for us in the past. We didn't buy junk but ate what was satisfying. How grateful I am for the changes to my health and how I feel!

Looks like a nice retreat: a good balance of relaxation, movement and eating well. 💕💕💕

Wow! what a nice trip! Love the pictures, it looks a lot like Fort Bragg. I've been wanting to drive up the Northern California and Oregon coast - Lincoln City was my ultimate destination (I saw quite a few new homes online there!). But I only made it as far a Brookings, just above the California border. And that was about an 8 hour drive. Still hope to do the trip all the way up but will need about a week and someone to watch Bobby. I saw lots of Elk on the drive to Brookings. Had never seen one before. I took pictures of them all on the road right next to the sign that said "Elk Crossing". Glad you had a good time and congratulations of eating healthy. I haven't had much success with that on my trips to the coast.

Thank you Little Fox and Erika! Moo, it was so nice and felt like a good balance! Frizy, my beach friend, it was so great! I look forward to seeing your pictures of your trip soon! My dream vacation or home would be situated to see the ocean. There is just nothing like it! I have watched the waves beat against those same rocks at my grandma's beach for so long. My mother was only 8 when she moved there and some of my first memories were jumping the little waves holding my mom and dad's hands. My first three children got to go to grandma's house and make some of their first memories there also.

Keyten, I loved every minute! The morning we left we walked for 4 miles down the beach until we could go no further. No people, no houses, no noise but the waves and the gulls. Then... 4 miles back to civilization. Absolute perfection! Thank you Erq! It was such a special time. I planned it when he was gone in Europe this fall... it helped me hang on knowing we would share this special trip away. Thank you, Eatolive!

Thank you Khrissy and Kattay! I wish the pictures would center properly, but at least you can get an idea of what it was like!

BTW, the wave crashing on the rocks behind me is exactly in front of the beach access next to my Grandparents house. I have stood there and watched the waves crash over that rock thousands of times. When there is a storm, it is just "wild" as grandma would say.

Your weekend sounds like a storybook tale, and I love the photos. I agree with you about being near the sea; I've booked a beach house in Grand Isle (the very tip of the toe of Louisiana) for the end of May 2020 for the whole family.
