HCB's Journal, 21 Jan 13

Two separate days last week I followed the intermittent fasting (IF) plan - fasting from dinner one day until dinner the next day. When I am particularly busy at work, it is very easy; and I drink more water.

In essence, the IF plan is a little like calorie cycling - some days very low, some higher level.

I had a small loss this week - does that mean IF helped? Not yet sure - but am trying it again this week to see what happens. It does reduce your calorie average for the week; and it gives my stomach a break.

I have been drinking warm water with lemon and enjoy it. Not sure if that is helping either...but what the heck - it isn't hurting me!

Still grateful for:

- The people I love who love me back!
- The good health of my loved ones
- My FS Buddies who support and encourage me to continue
- "Butt-kicking" myself to a smaller size today

I am jealous because my desire to lose weight is as great as yours. If I go too long without eating I get shaky, feel nauseous and have horrible headaches. For your sake I sure hope this works. You deserve a big loss.

A small loss is better than no loss right? Hope the plan works well for you, take care!

Calorie cycling is a little different in that your overall calories for the week evens out to the same when you average the high and low days. But maybe the loss with the IF is telling you that you need to lower your overall RDI - at least temporarily to get things moving again. I say, whatever works!

You are dedicated! I won't do the fasting for weight loss because it might work, and I'm afraid it would become a habit. :)

I do drink warm water with lemon every morning :) & I have really grown to love it. Not sure if it does any good, but it certainly feels good! As for IF.....can't really offer any advice, as I have never done it intentionally. Do keep us posted :), just don't stop butt kicking yourself into a smaller size. You have done it so brilliantly!!!

I like how you aren't afraid to try things and see if they work for you. No ruts for you. And it is very true we all need to find our own path that's right for us. Plus you always have great ideas!

This is exciting news! I hope the trend continues and gives you more confidence that what you are trying is working.

Glad you are trying this. I look forward to what you think. I love the IF days off from dealing with food. I think it is training me to think about other things. The last couple of days I have been really hungry so I need to focus on more water. I don't know what is going on but will try to stay focused and get on here more often for all the inspirations. Best to you!

HCB you are always brave to try new things. I remember several months ago that I decided to change my RDI to 1500 calories a day and I did it for a week, and you were supportive. I actually gained back then. Well, the past 2 to 3 weeks I've been struggling with bingeing, and I have been eating about 1500 calories a day. I just lost 5 pounds! Can't believe it! So it's odd - before going to 1500 didn't help me, and this time around eating 1500 (along with great exercise) did help me to lose a lot. I didn't even think I was trying that, I was just doing my best to stay under maintenance and feeling very out of control. At any rate, I digress - if fasting is what you want to do, then by all means, go for it. Not really an option for me, but I am ready to hear all about it and am curious if you will like it.

I couldn't do it either. My pills make me really sick w/o food. But if it works...work it! :-)

I was talking to my boss about IF the other day, and he said it is a common practice in his religion (LDS). They do it to practice discipline and to focus on God instead of earthly things like food. That spiritual aspect really appeals to me.
