Debbie Cousins's Journal, 28 May 19

Sometimes, life just isn’t fair! This morning, I got up and made a 2-egg omelet with Mexican cheese in it, bacon, and sausage. I ate three bites of the omelet and 2 bites of the sausage and had to go throw up! I had gastric bypass surgery 13 years ago, and that happens if I eat too quickly or don’t chew thoroughly enough, but neither of those was the case in this instance. I went back to bed for awhile and got up and tried again with the same foods (which I had, of course, put into the fridge). Same result!

My husband had wanted Pizza Hut for lunch, and I went and got it for him and our live-in. While they were eating it, I tried some spaghetti squash I had prepped and crumbled a piece of bacon into it. Before I could even finish the ½ cup of it, I was vomiting for the THIRD TIME!

All this time, I had been resisting a LOT of things in my house, opting for the healthier, Keto options. After three failed attempts, I figured, “If I’m gonna barf up whatever I eat, I might as well eat the pizza!” So I had a piece – NO vomiting. Then, I added in a Diet Coke with a 2nd piece of pizza. Still no vomiting. Since I had ½ of an orange left in the fridge from yesterday, I went ahead and ate that, too. NOW, I’m wanting to tackle that last bowl of watermelon left from yesterday. I probably will yield to that temptation, too.

I’m disappointed with myself for making non-Keto choices today, as I had such high intentions for myself in that regard. I DID make Exercise a priority today, though, and have done about ¾ of my PT exercises so far. I plan to finish the others, as well. I’m still hoping that my weight will be down for tomorrow, as I’ve still eaten MUCH LESS than what I have been lately.

Tomorrow’s a new day! Another chance to get it right!

Maybe you do not want to go back to keto? Is there a middle road in there somewhere you can take? Tell yourself that you are just starting with the protein foods and can have your fruits later?

I'm not one to do keto myself, nor do I preach against those who wish to do it either....but I noticed 1 common denominator in your eating meals (exception Pizza)...each time you had bacon ! Either it may not be any good, or the grease or fat does not agree with you ..... Just an assumption on my part, but you never know !!! However, I wish you well, and hope that you have a better day tomorrow... :}

Don't feel bad about the watermelon. it is almost all water, not that much sugar, and you would have to eat the whole watermelon or more to impact your weight. It is not calorie-dense. Thus although it has a high glycemic index, its glycemic load, which is more important, is very low. I feel for you about the vomiting. That feels so awful.

High five! I'm throwing up as well but since I just had the surgery they are a little worried. Went in today and had some testing so hopefully they will get back to me soon! Sorry about the eating thing...I've been doing a little of that too...all I'm keeping down is mashed potatoes, bananas, and rice pudding. UGH! Good luck with your tummy troubles, hope they resolve soon!!

I have a picky digestive system. I do just low carb not keto. It does good for me. I eat pretty simple. Fish & chicken, occasionally red meat as I don't digest easily. I never eat processed meat (bacon). I eat lots of spinach. It's my favorite. Big salads with a variety of lower carb veggies. Rarely use salad dressing. Balsamic vinegar, s&p, and fresh grated parmesan. I eat about 3 eggs every day, mostly hard boiled. I feel amazingly better when I eat a simpler diet.

I hope the vomiting subsides. No looking back...onward, forward. I know you will recover.

Maybe you just need a week of healthy low calorie meals. My body goes through times when I can't eat fat or meat produces at all. I switch to straight fruits and veggies for a few days and feel like a new person then eat whatever I want after that. It's a new day tomorrow. Praying for you because if you're stressing high fat may not be your friend.

@digregorio957, I've had good progress with the Keto WOE. Of course, there are many on here who have had success with other programs, too. If what you're doing isn't working, try something else for a bit. If you see good results, stick with it. I was 302 when I had the surgery in 2006. Lost down to 185 for a DAY, and stayed between 198-202 for about 7 years. After that, I crept back up to 248 a couple years ago. I'm shooting for 165, and my doctor says not to go below 150 at my age (65 in less than a month). Hope you find what works for you! Perhaps you'd like to join one of my Daily Accountability challenges -- a lot of people respond well to reporting in daily. The next one "Daily Accountability 2019-#22" starts on Monday -- we'd love to have you join us. Might be just the boost you need to get off that plateau.

Husband had gastric 11 years ago. Anything with too much grease and he still has dumping. Will always be there

It's just one day. See what tomorrow brings. Your body evidently knew what it needed. I had regular fried chicken several days ago and didn't stress. I was at a funeral and that was what they had. See no real repercussions. Thank you for your encouraging post for challenge.

I don't know what the problem was that day, @aziggle! I have eaten those very same foods yesterday and today with no ill effects. Honestly, I think it was just the devil trying to get me to stay OFF TRACK. Thankfully, he didn't win! I still lost weight, even after the pizza, because I ate so little that day.
