My wife has been having a problem with her fitbit. It goes dead without warning and lasts only a day and a half on a full charge. Also missing a vertical line on the display although it's in a location that is only visible when the charge indicator symbol is displayed. I emailed customer service about the problem, not sure what type of response I'd get, but saying I felt the device was defective. I'm very pleased to say they responded back within one day stating their records of her account show that the battery is defective and they're going to replace the entire device in a color of her choosing. Now that is good customer service and speaks well for the company.

My wife and I both have the Charge HR. Mine has been great, I get 4 days on a charge and probably could go 5 days. Hopefully her replacement will work fine. Trying to troubleshoot her battery issues I've found that battery life can be significantly affected by a number of things like frequency of syncing, having active alarms or notifications turned on, quick view settings, frequency of timed exercise sessions, etc.

I had problems with the flex. I sent it back and got an HR and I love it! No more problems.

Wow.... good job. I had issues with them and went back to Dick's and they replaced mine.

Bill - I guess resetting them is similar to rebooting a computer, stops any background processes running and you get a fresh start. I tried that several times with my wife's but it didn't seem to help the charging issue. Hopefully these devices will be durable over time. The band on the Charge HR is pretty thick but I think the unit itself is integral with the band. I don't know what the options would be if the band broke, I always try to be very careful with it.

Update: I replied back to Fitbit customer support this morning with the additional information they needed, less than an hour later got an order confirmation emailed back. A new fitbit is on it's way free of charge, this one in the new tangerine color. Superb response and customer service so far, hopefully the replacement will resolve the issue.

I'm torn about Fitbits and their ilk in general for a few reasons -- on the one hand, I think it would serve as an effective motivator and monitor for me (right now, I just rely on a basic pedometer to keep up with daily steps and I use the Nike running app to 'pace' my brisk dog walks and solo runs). But I'm kind of OCD about my accessories, so I suppose I'm waiting for them to become a little more 'stylish' or 'fashion-forward'! ;) But you're not the first person I've heard sing Fitbit's customer service praises . . . hope the new one meets expectations!

Losint1655: A basic pedometer is great, I have a couple of them. I guess what sold me on the fitbit was a gradual process of becoming more and more interested in my heartrate during workouts. Having heart disease and several stents makes that important to me too. When the Charge HR came out at a $100 savings over the Surge I bit the bullet. Now that I've been using it and see the data I get I'm hooked and it's a great motivator. As long as it's durable it's a good thing, for me so far so good but it's only been about 5 months so the final test will come in time. One of my concerns is battery life as I don't know that you can just replace the battery. As far as accessorizing, I'm just a simple guy, my black one looks fine on my arm as far as I'm concerned. My wife had the plum but now that the tangerine is available she's going for that.
