jmb3450's Journal, 03 Feb 15

215 lbs this morning so 3 lbs of the water gain are gone. My chest, back and arms are still pretty sore - I think I'll wait until Thursday to do another upper body workout. I did lower body last night and cardio, Wednesday is rest day. Have decided there's no point worrying about weight fluctuations right now while my body adjusts to new exercise routines and muscles are stressed in ways they're not used to. It's actually kind of interesting seeing how my body reacts to the changes. As long as I'm eating correctly, once adjusted I expect to see continued weight loss. If I can increase my muscle mass in the process I'm better off for it.

Glen, I did some quick reading on DOMS yesterday. Soreness and water retention are both part of it and actually a good thing as the muscles repair and build new tissue. For me a lot of my chronic aches and pains are diminished or gone since I've been doing regular strenuous exercise, overall I feel much better and have more energy.

I was surprised to find out that a hard workout would make me retain water weight. Don't let it throw you off track. It goes away in a couple of days.

Thanks guys. The more I do, the more motivation I have to do more. Taking the first step to begin a cardio routine, and now to be serious about weight/resistance training were the hardest things. Just committing to start was the big challenge.

Muscles retain water as they heal after intensive exercise

I did abs Saturday and Sunday. My stomach is typically flat as a pancake and hard but after working out my abs, I have a little pudge, not sure if this is a sign of stressing the muscles or what but it is uncomfortable and I probably did too much too fast.
